Mr. Hoffman was a veteran of World War having served with the American Army in France. He was a native and lifelong resident of Gratz and was a son of George and Jennie (Ritzman) Hoffman. He was a member of the Simeon's Lutheran Church, and Shade Post, American Legion, of Gratz. Survivors are his parents, his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Bowman Hoffman, and two sons, Earl P. Hoffman of the U. S. Army Air Forces, home on furlough from overseas; and James Hoffman, at home. Other survivors are a brother, Russell Hoffman, and a sister, Mrs. Emily Wood, both of Gratz."

Motz, throughout the county, will be grieved to learn of his death after a few days illness. He passed away this morning at 4:15 o'clock at his home on Pulaski Pike. He was 67 years old and leaves a sister, Miss Ella Motz as his only near relative. She was a member of Ruby Chapter OES of Winter Harbor and the Retired Teachers Association, She is survived by three daughters, Diane Guthrie of Ellsworth, Shirley Chase of San Fransicom Calif., Janet Fickett of Winter Harbor; one son, Edward Francis Chase, Jr. of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Margaret Crowley of Lamoine; 11 grandchildren and I5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews."
