Born and raised in Eastport, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Carroll and Grace (Pottle) Rice. Ruth graduated with the class of 1936, from the Shead Memorial High School. She also graduated with the class of 1939, from the Washington State Normal School in Machias, Maine, where she received her teaching degree. Ruth taught in Hancock, Maine, until her marriage to her late husband Franklin. Ruth lived in Milton, MA and Waterford, CT. before moving to Scituate in 1960. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Scituate and served as Treasurer for 5 years, as well as being on the Missions Committee. Ruth was also a member of the coffee and donuts bowling league in Scituate. Ruth is survived by her loving daughters, Carol A. Gallo and her husband Richard of Holly Springs, NC, Mary E. Richards of Pembroke and Barbara J. Whiting of Spring Hill, FL. Mother-in-law of the late R. David Richards and Wallace Whiting. Dear sister of Holman F. Rice of CT. and the late Neil M. and Howard P. Rice. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins."
