[1765] Giselbert kidnapped Emperor Lotharius' daughter Irmingard in 846 and quickly married her. Giselbert was a vassal of Charles II "The Bald" of West-Francia, who may well have orchestrated this kidnap to complicate matters for his half-brother Lotharius, who's Empire he would wish to annex. Cf. http://www.geneajourney.com/louv.html#giselbert and http://www.stirnet.com/HTML/genie/ancient/ae/brabant01.htm (which presents a different ancestry).
