[12270] Nicholas was lord of the baronies of Cottingham, Yorkshire, and Liddle Strength, Cumberland. http://members.tripod.com/gpf/worldhistory.html offers: King "John levied massive reliefs (inheritance duties) on some barons: Nicholas de Stuteville, for example, was charged 10,000 marks (about £6,666) to inherit his brother's lands in 1205." As might be supposed, Nicholas was among the Barons who confronted John at Runnymede in 1215.
