In 1677, Gunnar Rambo was among the 23 Swedes who presented a petition to the court at Upland "to settle together in a town at the west side of the river, just below the falls." (Bucks Co, PA: Pioneers of the Eighteenth Century, Richard Williams and Mildred Williams, 1974). Gunnar was willed 300 acres of land on Homan's Creek, Gloucester Co, NJ by his father in 1698, but he apparently preferred living on the tract of land he purchased in 1707 on the Schuylkill River lying adjacent to Peter Cock's land, and the Widow Yoakum's land on the south. It was near what is now Bridgeport, PA. In 1733 the Rev. Samuel Hesselius, a Swedish Clergyman, made a visit to the Upper Merion Swedes on his way from Wicaco to Morlattan, where he was located. He also had service for the Swedes at Matzong. This was without doubt, Matson's Ford at Conshohocken. While at Upper Merion he held service at the home of Gunnar Rambo, where all the Swedes in the settlement gathered to see and hear their own pastor from their native land. He advised the erection of a school house, that their children might enjoy the advantages of a better education, and that the building should also be used for religious purposes. The suggestion was so well received, that a ommittee consisting of Mons Rambo, Andrew Holstein, Peter Rambo and Peter Yoakum was at once appointed to secure a site and erect it. The school house was completed in 1735, and with an acre of ground was enclosed with a post and rail fence. No actual sale of this land was made until the death of Gunnar Rambo, when it came by inheritance to his son John, and to his son Ezekiel. On the 7th day of May 1758, Ezekiel Rambo and his wife executed a deed for an acre of ground to Mons Rambo, Andrew Holstein, Peter Rambo and George Rambo, who had been chosen trustees to represent the Swedish Lutheran congregation of Upper Merion. Gunnar and his wife had the following children: John (1676 - 1745), Peter (1678 - 1750), Gunnard (1680 - ), Andrew (1682 - 1755), Mons (1684 - 1760), Brigitta (1685 - 1705), Gabriel (1687 - 1734), Matthias (1690 - ), and Elias (1693 - 1750). His will is recorded: Will Book D, p. 388, Philadelphia, PA."
