From 1298/99 to 16 August 1308 he was summoned to an assembly which met and which by certain past rulings has been designated a Parliament, although neither knights nor burgesses were summoned and under the more rigorous rules of evidence required today would not constitute a sitting giving rise to a peerage. He fought in the Siege of Carlaverock in 1300, in King Edward I's army. He campaigned in Scotland as late as 1306.4 He lived at Aylesford, Kent, England. He lived at Codnor, Derbyshire, England."

[20005] Jonathan "Peiper" was of Orrville, OH when he married; Emma Boydston was of East Union Twp., Wayne Co., near Orrville. The 1880 census of Orrville Village lists Jonathan (age 39, a carpenter) and his wife Emma (age 28) with son Ellis H. (age 6). Jonathan served as a Private in the Company of Captain O. B. MacKnight in the Ninth Regiment of the Pennsylvania Cavalry volunteers from 1 Nov 1861 until discharged in December 1864 at Kingsbridge, Georgia. He was injured during his service, apparently in Tennessee while asleep when a horse stepped on his chest, the injury later complicated by typhoid fever and requiring a year in a military hospital (Knoxville, Sept., 1863 - Aug. 1864). His discharge paper records he is age 24, 5 feet 7 inches tall, of light complexion, dark hair and dark eyes, a carpenter; the discharge paper is dated 24 Dec 1864 at Kingsbridge, Georgia. {See pension certificate 715051 in the National Archives.} He His ancestry is not proven, but is based on a family historian's oral history (Jephaniah or "Jeph" Piper of Dry Run, Amberson Valley, PA, cited by Mrs. Alton Piper's 1941 letter from Amberson, PA to D. E. Piper). Amberson Valley is in the northern portion of Franklin County, and the hamlet of Amberson is immediately north of the Blue Mountain twin tunnels of the PA Turnpike, and is just west of the western tip of Perry County. Apparently he operated the "Peiper Store" at 1046 South Lawrence Avenue, Wichita, Kansas, where an old photo shows D. E. and Randall Piper in front of the store in 1902 or 1903 (archives of Gardner Piper). Previously Jonathan and Emma ("Emily") may have been in Lyons, Nebraska, where a photo of him was made about 1891 (archives of Gardner Piper). In the 1900 census Jonathan and Emily with sons David E. and Randall G. are in Fitzgerald, GA. In 1891 Jonathan bought a lot next to his son in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and built a small house on it. His son moved to Cornelia, GA in 1915 and Jonathan, being ill, was brought to live with the family there until his death. On the back of a photo of Jonathan, his son, David Ellis Piper wrote: "Son of John A. Piper and Mary Struble, and grandson of Mary Rook whose entire male children fought in the Revolutionary Army and visited at Valley Forge - 4 of Mary Rook's brothers were officers of the 'Penna Line'." The 1900 federal census shows Jonathan Peiffer [sic] in Fitzgerald, GA (b. Aug, 1837 in PA) with wife Emily (b. Nov, 1851 in OH), and sons David E. (b. July, 1873 in OH) and Randall G. (b. Nov, 1882). [Cf. Civil War Pensions - Publication Number: T289 - Publication Title: Organization Index to Pension Files of Veterans Who Served Between 1861 and 1900. - Publisher: NARA - State: Ohio - Arm Of Service: Infantry - Regiment: 161; Company: H - Name: Piper, Jonathan - Rank: {BLANK} - Date: 18-SEP-1908 - State/arm Of Service: Ohio Inf. - Company/regiment: H,161 - Roll Number: 436. Jonathan Peiper [sic] is on the list of those who attended the dedication of a monument on the Chickamauga-Chattanooga Battlefields - "Pennsylvania at Chickamauga and Chattanooga: Ceremonies at the Dedication of the Monuments . . .", 1897 - he is listed as a resident of Fitzgerald, Irwin Co., GA and as having served as a Private in I Co., 9th Reg. Cavalry.] He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic Eggleston Post - 244 in Wichita, KS.
