Leach, 88, died May 1, 1998 at a Presque Isle nursing home. He wat born in Belfast, August 30, 1909, the son of Leon and Lucy (Patton) Leach. He was employed as a logger for Great Northern Paper Co, for more than 20 years. Mr. Leach is survived by his wife, Laversa (Poitras) Leach of Ashland; one daughter, Lillian LeTourneau of Ashland; one son, Donald Leach of Ashland; one brother, Leon Leach of Bangor; three sisters, Helen Stanley of Brewer, Sibyl Leach of Bangor and Mary Lou Anderson of Oxbow Plt.; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sons, Glenn and William, and Keith Robert Leach."

[20015] Mary applied for a Civil War widow's pension on 9 October 1922. A witness to her marriage is C. W. Turner of whom Ellis Gardner Piper remarks: "I am willing to bet that C. W. Turner was Mary Melissa's daddy because forty days later, on August 12, 1872, little Gertie I. Gardner was born. Better late than never, they say." Cora Gardner called Mary "Mamma," although Mary is reputed to have demeaned her in favor of Mary's own children.
