Hilton co-owned and operated The Green Moth Store and Cabins in Trenton with his wife, Carlene, for over 20 years. After their 'retirement' from the store, he went on to work for Bar Harbor Public Works until his retirement in 2009. Hilton loved his family, friends, stock car racing, baseball, the woods and ocean. He loved telling stories about driving trucks, racing the 8-Ball car on the dirt track at Graham Lake and things that happened at the store. Hilton is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carlene (Grant); daughter, Lisa Ellen and son in law, Todd Winger; brother, Floyd and wife, Roberta; brothers-in law - Herbert Grant and Joel and Tammy Grant; Aunt Virginia Farnsworth; a special cousin, Pam Farnsworth; good friends - Kelton and Janet Muise, Robert and Marsha Carter and many nieces, nephews and cousins."

Ruth's obituary in Find A Grave reports: "Mrs. Keen died Tuesday (Sept. 29, 1998) at the Iroquois Resident Home, Watseka. She was born Nov. 14, 1902 in Stockland, the daughter of William T. and Hulda Peterson Nolin. Her husband, Jesse L. Keen, whom she married Dec. 21, 1922 in Stockland, died Jan. 30, 1993.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale R. and Shirley Keen of Forest, Va. and Richard L. and Betty Keen of Champaign; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Deceased are four brothers, three sisters and a son, William. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Milford Women's Club, the Iroquois Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a past president of a number of local organizations. She attended Stockland Grade and high school and was a member of the Stockland Alumni Association."

[39082] The Atlanta Constitution, 14 March 1931, p. 10: William Edgar Scruggs. 66, well known Atlanta and son of the late Colonel William Lindsay Scruggs, former envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary to Venezuela, died early Friday morning at his home, 114 Melrose' avenue, Decatur, after a prolonged illness. Funeral services will lie conducted in Spring Hill chapel, further arrangements to be announced by 11. M. Patterson & Son. Mr. Scruggs' father was envoy to Venezuela . . . He was the founder of the New Era, one of the earliest newspapers in Atlanta, and at one time was editor of the Columbus Enquirer-Sun. His mother was formerly Miss Judith Anne Potts, member of a prominent Virginia family. Mrs. Oscar Oldknow, a daughter, of Los Angeles, and William L. Scruggs, a son, of Kansas City, Mo., are coming to Atlanta by airplane to attend the services. Prior to his retirement 10 years ago because of failing health Mr. Scruggs served as southern field representative for the Sebring Pottery Company, of Sebring. Ohio. He was born and reared in Atlanta. Mr. Scruggs was a member of the Pioneer School Boys of Atlanta and of the West End Methodist church. He also was prominent in Masonic circles. Surviving are his widow, formerly Miss Lula Watson, of Roswell; another daughter, Mrs. Margaret Scruggs Mundy, of Atlanta: three other sons, J. Edgar. Ernest C. and Dr. Anderson M. Scruggs, all of Atlanta: two sisters. Miss Maud Judith Scruggs and Mrs. C. L. G. Anderson, both of Washington, D. C., and six grandchildren.
