[38906] Find A Grave Memorial 1723 offers: "Colonial Governor. Bradstreet received bachelor's and master's degrees from Cambridge's Emmanuel College. He married Anne Dudley, who was the daughter of Puritan leader Thomas Dudley and later became the first published poet in North America. Dudley and Bradstreet relocated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630 and Dudley was soon chosen to serve as governor. Bradstreet was involved in numerous business pursuits, most notably land speculation, and founded several new towns. He also filled several important positions in local and colonial government, including deputy governor. In 1661, he was chosen as envoy to the court of Charles II, confirming the colony's charter when Charles assumed the throne of England after years of civil war. In 1679 Bradstreet was selected to serve as governor and held office until 1686, the last person to hold the position under the colony's original charter. In 1686 the colony was denied its previously held right to self-rule, and Edmund Andros was appointed governor. After Andros was removed Bradstreet served again as governor from 1689 to 1692. Bradstreet was remarkably active even old age, maintaining his participation in government and his business pursuits almost until his death at age 94. (bio by: Bill McKern)". The titles became extinct in this family upon the death of Robert, sixth lord Grey of Rotherfield, 14 January 1388. In the 6th of the same reign, upon some differences between his lordship and William le Zouch, of Haryngworth, another great baron, which was heard before the king, Lord Grey, under the irritation of the moment, drew his knife upon Lord Zouch in the royal presence, whereupon both lords were committed to prison; but the Lord Zouch was soon afterwards released, while Lord Grey was remanded and his lands seized upon by the crown. He was, however, within a short time, upon making submission, restored to favour; and in three years afterwards we find his lordship in Scotland upon the king's service, being of the retinue with Henry, Earl of Lancaster. From this period for several years, he was engaged in the French wars, and in the 20th of Edward's reign, he obtained license to fortify his houses at Rotherfield Grey, co. Oxford, and Sculcotes, co. His lordship m. 1st, Katherine, dau. and co-heiress of Bryan Fitz-Alan, of Bedall, co. York, and had issue, John, his successor, and Maud, m. 1st to John de Botetourt, of Weoley, and 2ndly, to Thomas de Harcourt. He m. 2ndly, Avice, dau. and co-heir of John, Lord Marmion, and had two sons, John and Robert, who both assumed their mother's name of Marmion. Husband of Agnes Darrell, daughter of Thomas Darrell of Scotney, Kent and Thomasine Gresley, daughter of Sir John. They had two sons and one daughter; Sir John, Edmund and Florence, the wife of Sir John Cotesmore. Secondly, husband of Elizabeth Darcy, widow of Sir Richard York who died 27 Oct 1528. Alexander, 2nd Laird of Manderston Home, was born in 1520 the child of Alexander and Barbara. He married Janet/Jean on January 6, 1552, in Aberdeenshire. They had six children in 21 years. He died on December 25, 1593, at the age of 73."
