[23670] AKA Johan Casper Hepler. PA Archives, Series 5, Vol. 8, Page 55: Caspar served in the military forces of the Revolutionary War. There was "A General Muster of Northampton County Militia" for 14th of May 1778 extant, listing Captain Joseph Kooken in command of the first Company and showing Caspar as one of ten members of First Class. "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 28 August 2021: "Hampden - Otis Small passed away on August 15, 2021. He was born in Bangor on April 19, 1931, and raised in Pigeon Hill, the son of Frank and Frances Small.
Otis lived a full and colorful life that touched and changed the lives of many. He will be remembered as a kind, generous, loving man whose sense of humor could fill a room - and blow the roof off it. He was that quick. That funny. Often that hilarious. In the end, life wasn't always easy for Otis, but he nevertheless faced its obstacles with the kind of courage and dignity that was never without a smile. In fact, toward the end of his life, whenever anyone asked him how he was, he'd enthusiastically say, 'Fabulously fantastic!' Just like he was. Otis graduated from Cherryfield Academy before attending the University of Maine at Machias, where he graduated with a degree in education. After spending many years in the Air Force, he taught eighth-grade science at Hampden Academy before joining the Air National Guard, where he was a Master Sergeant at the base. Because he loved the rapport he had with his beloved students, he decided to return to teaching when he retired from the Guard, this time teaching disabled students until he retired at the age of eighty. If teaching was a calling for him (his parents also were teachers), so was service. Otis was a 32nd degree Master Mason and the Master of Rising Virtue Lodge #10 in Bangor. Otis also was a proud Shriner for many years. And yet as seriously as Otis lead his life, that mischievous twinkle in his eyes was a mainstay. His big heart was as open as his mind, and it seemingly had room for anyone who wanted access to it. If there was anything ironic about Otis, one only had to look at his last name. There was nothing small about Otis Small's life. Not even close. Otis is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-three years, Barbara Ann (Carr) Small of Hampden; his daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Small) Parodi of Phoenix, AZ; his grandson and wife, Cameron, and Anna Gokey of Portland, ME; his sister-in-law, Nancy Elizabeth Rice of Naples, FL; and his nieces, Lori Rice of Bullhead City, AZ, and Julie Rice of Naples, FL. He also will be missed deeply by his best friend, Ross Smith of Brewer; his wife, Ann; and their four adult children, who were blessed to consider Otis as their uncle since the day they were born."
