[58665] Ralph's obituary: "Addison - Ralph Ulmer Bailey, Jr. (65), passed peacefully in his sleep, December 23, 2024, at home with loved ones. He was born February 09, 1959, in Machias, to Leona Evelyn Dorr and Ralph Ulmer Bailey Sr. and was predeceased by both parents; sister, Becky (Rebecca); brother, Butch (Willard Sr.); and nephew, Willard Bailey Jr. He is survived by his youngest daughter, Maggie and fiance Adam and grandkids, Sophia, Layla, Allison, & Jacklin; eldest daughter, Orianna and fiance Charley; siblings, James (Karen) Bailey, Dianne (Sid) Farren, and Gloria (Michael) Allen; and of course, the many special nieces, nephews, cousins and 'half-packs' he cared for throughout life, as if they were his own. The loss of his father and two siblings in childhood instilled a deep sense of duty and protection in Ralph, which stayed with him throughout his life. He stepped in wherever he was needed without hesitation and always went above and beyond for loved ones. He was raised Downeast, spending most of his childhood and adult years in 'the pink house on the hill' in Addison. He enjoyed his time in life and championed in his many roles - father, brother, son, uncle, athlete, huntsman, fisherman, captain, biker, and beloved wild-child character, renowned in town(s), and loved by many. After graduating from Narraguagus High School (Class of 1977), Ralph went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged 1981 with the rank of Corporal and a commendation for bravery, among other achievements. Even stationed across the world in Okinawa, Japan, he continued to support family. Ralphs last chapter was spent lighting up the community with smiles behind the counter at Elmers Gardens. Before slowing down, he spent the majority of his professional years as captain of his own commercial fishing vessel. He and his crew fished for lobster, quahogs, and scallops. With years on the sea under his belt, he dove into urchin searchin and never looked back. He was a diver in frigid winter waters and considered it to be a dream job. In the warmer months hed be found heading into Schoodic or Centerville camps, where the dirt roads and family tradition shaped his whole life. With half the countys kids in tow 'there was never a question' if they wanted to go, they were always welcome, fed well, (and character-developed by drop-off). Countless kids and adults alike knew him as Uncle Ralph - an unapologetically unique character with a heart of gold, the strength of a hundred men, and a sense of humor that will live on in his loved ones until the end of time. Truly, a man larger than life."
