[55879] Joan's obituary: "Bucksport- Joan A. Bridges gracefully entered into rest on December 24, 2020. She was born in Bucksport on August 17, 1933, the daughter of Raymond and Edith (Arey) Atwood. Joan was educated in Bucksport where she met and married her husband, Raymond, and they went on to raise a large, loving family. She spent countless hours preparing winter food from the gardens that Ray grew and that were tended to by their children. Later, she and Ray owned and operated Rays Farm Market in Millvale, where she made lasting friendships due in part to her delicious pizza. While raising her family, Joan went on to work at the Sylvania Plant in Bangor. Later, she worked as a deli manager at Dougs Shop N Save. In later years, she very much enjoyed playing Poker and Bingo at the Senior Center, where she served for a while as a lunch waitress, endearing herself to everyone she met there. Joan later found comfort in watching the birds outside her window where she spent most of her time. Though Joan could have a 'feisty' side her love for her children and grandchildren was unmovable always. She is survived by her sons, Brian, Larry (and Judy) and Raymond and her daughters Joan (and Lloyd), Tina (and Robert) and Lesa. She leaves many adored grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews who loved their special Aunt Jode. She is also survived by three brothers Ernest, Fred, and Wilford: and sisters-in-law Thiry and Shirley and soul mate sister-in-law Irene. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Ray, her daughter, Lindy, and her granddaughter, Corinne. She was left behind also by five sisters, Ruth, Shirley, Barbara Edith and Yvonne, brothers Herbert and Bud. Joan will be remembered as an image of love by her family and by all who were fortunate to know this remarkable loving woman. A memorial service will be held in the spring."

[40226] Ancestry.com offers: "Hall Name Meaning - English, Scottish, Irish, German, and Scandinavian: from Middle English hall (Old English heall), Middle High German halle, Old Norse holl all meaning 'hall' (a spacious residence), hence a topographic name for someone who lived in or near a hall or an occupational name for a servant employed at a hall. In some cases it may be a habitational name from places named with this word, which in some parts of Germany and Austria in the Middle Ages also denoted a salt mine. The English name has been established in Ireland since the Middle Ages, and, according to MacLysaght, has become numerous in Ulster since the 17th century."
