[57268] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 1 June 2022: "East Millinocket - Valerie (Irish) Cropley, 78, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on May 29, 2022. She was born in Bancroft, Maine on Jan. 16, 1944, to Elvin and Harriet (Bubar) Irish. Valerie graduated from Wytopitlock High School, and a few years after graduation, she married the love of her life, Don R. Cropley. Together they raised three daughters: Vicki, Winnie, and Diane, and made their home in East Millinocket, Maine. Valerie worked at Great Northern Paper Company for several years, often sharing stories of her experiences in the paper room, wood room, and the grinding room. During her years at GNP, Don taught her how to drive a dump truck. Eventually, Valerie earned her class II license and began driving a sledge truck for GNP. Mom's happiest years were those spent with our dad, Don. Together they went camping, played cards with friends, visited family, and both were actively involved in East Millinocket's Feeney Groves' American Legion and its Ladies' Auxiliary. Don and Valerie also enjoyed many years of playing pitch at the Medway Sno-Rover's Clubhouse. After Dad's death, Mom stayed active in her children and grandchildren's lives. She loved being a Grammie. She also enjoyed volunteering her time on the Medway Old Home Days' Committee. She loved working dinners, dinner theaters, and other fundraising activities. Mom's final years were spent with her daughter, Diane, and her family in Medway. While there, Mom was surrounded by the love of her grandchildren: Alyssa Laporte, Kara Newbert, and Kooper, Lilly, Josie, and McKenna LaPorte. All of whom loved her and will miss her dearly. Kara wishes for her gram to be remembered for her beautiful smile, her infectious laugh, and her gram's ability at finding humor in every situation. Valerie is survived by her three daughters, Vicki Hanington, her husband, Arthur, 'Peanut', their children: Paul, Travis and Brooke; Winnie Allen and her husband, Paul; and Diane Laporte and her husband, Kenny, and their children. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Grayson and Dawson Newbert, Everett Shaw, and Cheyenne, Colt, and Sierra Hanington; two brothers: Dennis Irish and Rickey Irish; and one sister, Valice Austin Valerie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Don; and brothers: Lionel 'Snoody' Irish, and Bernard 'Bo' Irish. . . ."
