[40179] Find A Grave Memorial 34156325 offers: ". . . Josiah is the founder of the Connecticut Churchill's. He was one of the earliest settlers of Wethersfield, Connecticut. Wethersfield is generally considered to be the first permanent English settlement in Connecticut. Explored in 1633 by a party consisting of John Oldham and three others; Wethersfield was settled the next year. Oldham and nine others formed a group known as the 10 original settlers. They were soon joined by a party of 60 men, women and children who made the arduous overland voyage in the early fall of 1635. These original settlers all came from Watertown, Massachusetts, having been released by the church to make the settlement, an outpost of the Watertown Chuch and named likewise. Wethersfield, the oldest permanent settlement in Connecticut was first known by its Indian name 'Pyquag.' The name was changed to Wethersfield in 1637. Josiah Churchill (the immigrant) was born in 1613 at Muston, Dorset England. Josiah came to America as a sailor from England about midyear 1635. He married Elizabeth Foote, daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Deming Foote. Early records show Josiah was in real estate in Wethersfield." His parents are not known; see "One Life at a Time: A New World Family Narrative, 1630-1960," complied by R. Thomas Collins, Jr. (Fairfax Co., VA: Ravensyard Publishing, Ltd., 1999 - ISBN 0-9667883-0-3), # 17.Josiah enlisted from Wethersfield as a soldier in the Pequot War. [8239] Maebelle (AKA Maybell) and Donald r. 5342 Madison Avenue, Bethel Park, Allegheny Co., PA 15120. "Pittsburgh Post-Gazette [Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania]", 6 July 2007, p. 39: "Youse, Maebelle M., Age 100 of Bethel Park, on Tuesday, July 3, 2007; She was born on her grandfather's farm in Wayne County, Indiana, the oldest of Sherman and Rose Howard's four girls. She grew up on the farm, tending to the chickens and collecting eggs. The family traveled by horse and buggy. Maebelle and her oldest sister had a special seat in front of their parents on the buggy. Unfortunately, it was right behind the horse, and they use to get swatted by its tail. She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse until high school. After graduation in 1925, she went to Earlham College, studying to become a kindergarten teacher. In her fourth year, she transferred to Purdue University and hoped to become a home economics teacher. However, upon graduation in 1929, there weren't any jobs to be found because of the Depression. So she took a few more classes and met Donald Youse, and engineering student. The couple were married Feb. 23, 1935, and moved to Gary, IN. A few y ears later, Mr. Youse was transferred to Pittsburgh, where he worked in the Downtown office of U.S. Steel, and they lived in Dormont. Mr. Youse was transferred in 1944 to Pittsburg, CA, then back to Pittsburgh in 1947, and they moved to Bethel Park, where they lived for more than 40 years. Mrs. Youse enjoyed cooking, baking, cleaning and taking care of their children. She also enjoyed doing work at her church, Bethany Lutheran, where she belonged to several organizations. In her spare time, she crocheted, knitted, and read. In her later years with her eyesight failing, she still managed to read to only way she could, through books on tape. She is the wife of the late Donald Youse; cherished mother of David (Sandra) Youse, Jane A. (Ray) Walter, and Sarah (Vincent Strangio) Pitman; sister of the late Ruth Lowe, Mildred Gauker, and Blanche Howard; grandmother of Lee, Leah, Gayle, and Susannah; great-grandmother of Tyler, Ty, and Tianna."
