[866] About 1730, after war with the American Indians subsided, Joseph went with his brother Capt. John Fabyan to Scarboro, ME and purchased ca. 600 acres, built a sawmill and other buildings, etc. Joseph was "of a quiet disposition, and an active church member. He joined the First Parish Church in Scarboro, May 10, 1730.... He afterwards took his dismissal from the First Parish and was one of the original signers of the Second Parish Church covenant when organized, March 20, 1744." {-"Famous Men Sketches" in Bangor, ME Public Library}

Amos and his descendants are from Bjorn Swenson in 2012 who reports he wrote two songs of the sea: "The Schooner Fred Dunbar" and "A Trip to the Grand Banks." Went to sea; didn't return; deserted family or was lost at sea (there is one family legend that his ship was lost in the Bermuda Triangle during a major storm). The unverified "Bjorns Ancestors" in 2020 in Ancestry.com reports that the ship left Boston, MA in January 1890 "Bound for Cayenne, French Guiana - crew disappeared".
Amos had a reputation as a poet. He married Katie Patten (sister of Sam Patten) of Orland, Maine. His father willed to Amos his land (about 30 acres) lying on the south side of the county road leading from Castine to Blue Hill in the town of Penobscot. 1860 Census for Penobscot, ME lists: Amos W. Hanson, 20 Fisherman living with parents, John and Lucy Newberry Wardwell Hanson. 1870 Census for Penobscot, ME lists Amos Hanson, 29; Katie, 23; Winifred, 5. 1880 Census for Orland, ME list Amos Hanson, 39; Katie M., 33; Winifred S, 15; Hallie (entry looks like "Harry"), 9; Ike S. (this would be Raymond I.), 7; and Roy E., 5. Was a musician in Co. I 1st Regiment Infantry and Co. K 9th Regiment according to Adjutant General's Book.
"The Schooner Fred Dunbar," by Amos Hanson
from Barry in Bulletin of the Folk-Song Society of the Northeast, 1933 Collected
from Mrs. Emory Howard, North Bluehill, ME in 1932
You darling girls of Bagaduce who live along the shore
'Tis little do you think or know what sailors do endure
Or if you did, you would treat them with more respect than before
You never would go with a landloper while sailors are on shore
Oh those Penobscot cowboys will tell you girls fine tales
Of the hardships they endure while they are in the cornfields
While they feed their hens and punch their pigs and make their mothers roar
While we, like jovial-hearted boys, go to the Bay Chaleur
You darling girls of Bagaduce perhaps you'd like to know
The names of all our sailors before we start to go
Their names and dispositions, I'll endeavor to explain
Before we set our canvas to plough the raging main
The first was Hiram Wardwell who runs the Rory O'More
The next was Captain Perkins who roams the golden shore
They're very much respected by all both fore and aft
Two better men cannot be found on an Androscoggin raft
There was little Herman, Leroy and Bill, and Oliver Quinn and Steel
And Amos H. the author, who an entry sheep did steal
The next was little Owen, who loves the girls so well
The last was young Horatio - we called him the Admiral
On board of the Schooner Fred Dunbar, well found in fishing gear
We crowded on our canvas, for Green's Landing we did steer
When we arrived at anchor, the sun was very low
'Twas there we shipped young Stinson and Captain Mood Thurlew
When we arrived at Port McGrave, we hauled in for our salt
We took our little fiddle to have a little waltz
There was twelve of us when we started, our songs through the woods did roar
When we arrived, I was surprised, I could not count but four
The first day of September, broad off Cape Mardean
We struck a squall from our south-southeast which broke our boom in two
So gallantly she weathered it and it was fine to see
She walked to the windward with mainsail down, bound out to Margaree
The last day of September will be remembered well
And how poor sailors fared that night, no tongue can ever tell
The wind blew high, the seas grew rough, and in torrents fell the rain
I never saw such a night before and hope I shan't again
You darling girls of Bagaduce, the time is drawing nigh
When soon you'll see the Stars and Stripes from the Fred's main topmast fly
Get ready, gallant lasses, put on your other gowns
For soon you'll see the Fred Dunbar come sailing up to town
O now this voyage is ended and we've arrived on shore
With our pockets full of greenbacks we have earned to the Bay Chaleur
So merrily we'll dance and sing, as we have done before,
And when our money is all gone, we'll plough the bay some
more

[5375] Margaret is eldest dau. of King Henry VII. She m. (3) in 1526 Henry Stewart, Lord Methven. She m. (2) in 1514 Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus (1489-1557), with whom she also had James (Duke of Ross; d. 1504) and John (Earl of Mar; d. 1503). http://www.guide2womenleaders.com offers: "After her husband, James IV of Scotland, was killed, she became regent for her infant son, James V, but her marriage in 1514 to Archibald Douglas, 6th earl of Angus, led to the loss of the regency to John Stuart, duke of Albany, who soon obtained custody of the king. She fled to England, but returned in 1517, during James Stuarts absence, and shortly thereafter she became estranged from her husband. Her son was proclaimed king in 1524 and was for several years virtually a prisoner of her husband. In 1527 she obtained a divorce and soon married Henry Stuart, later Lord Methven. The following year her son escaped from her ex-husband and joined her and her new hisband, and they were for a time his chief advisers. A plan of of hers for a meeting between her brother Henry VIII of England and her son led James to accuse her of betrayal in 1534. They were further estranged by Jamess refusal to allow her to divorce her third husband. For long periods Heiress Presumptive to the English throne . . . ." Margaret died of a stroke at Methven Castle in Perthshire and was buried at the Carthusian Priory of St John in Perth.
