Mr. Hanscom was a US Navy veteran who served in WWII on the USS New Jersey as a reconnaissance photographer. A school teacher most recently at Haddon Heights High School, NJ in math and science, he also taught computer programming for the US Government and aided the military with decryption of documents. Mr. Hanscom co-authored an early book on computer languages published in the 1960's. An active music lover and practitioner who was multi-talented at various instruments, he also was an avid and excellent player of badminton, croquet and volleyball. He leaves behind one son, David Hadley Hanscom of Virginia Beach, two daughters, Eileen H. Tenan and her husband Eugene N. of Ellsworth, Maine and Wendy Lee Ham and her husband James B. of Virginia Beach, one granddaughter, Julia L. Ham of Virginia Beach, three brothers, Herbert A. Hanscom and his wife Flora, Raymond Hanscom and his wife Lillian and Ivan Hanscom and his wife Beverly, two sisters, Eleanor Dorr and Frances Moran and her husband Freddie. He was predeceased by his wife, Grace (McDowell) "Mickey" Hanscom and one daughter, Lorraine Hanscom. Burial at sea with military honors by the US Navy."
