Given as Anthony's father by "Potter Profiles" newsletter article by Sally M. Droll, R.R. 3, Beallsville, OH 43716. If correct, perhaps Anthony is son of his first wife, as Robert married (his 2nd?) in 1630 in New England to Isabella Anthony; note how young Anthony must have been when his father came to New England if his father married in New England in 1630! - looks suspicious! The LDS Church's unverified information (Ancestral File 8Q4L-0N) shows Robert baptized 15 Sept 1606 [sic] in Newport-Pagnell, Bucks Co., England; and gives his second wife as Sarah _____; another unverified Ancestral FIle (2061-8CG) states Robert is son of Robert Potter (b. 1577 to Thomas Potter) and Elizabeth Marshall (buried 2 April 1628 in Newport-Pagnell, m. there 4 Nov 1591).

A file in Ancestry.com provides:
Robert immigrated in Apr. 1634. They first settled in Lynn and Roxbury, MA. Robert and his friend Samuel Gorton appear to have been religious agitators, rejecting certain church ordinances. Troubles with the church compelled Robert to leave for Portsmouth, RI, where again he could not live peaceably, and then to Warwick, RI. In 1643, he and others were summoned to appear at court in Boston for some "unjust and injurious dealings" with some Indians. They declined to go, contending they were subjects of the King of England and not under the jurisdiction of MA. Soldiers were sent and the settlers made a defense in a fortified house. The wives were forced to flee to the woods where they endured some "hardships" and three of them died, including Robert's wife Isabel. The men were finally captured, tried and sent to prison at Rowley. Four months later, they were released, but banished from Warwick and MA. --Larry Overmire.
"Robert (1) POTTER- (b. ?-d. 1655 at Warwick, RI) was in Lynn in 1630. His first wife was Isabel (--), who d. 1643 at Warwick; and second wife, Sarah (--) d, 1686.
Robert was banished from Massachusetts, and in 1638, he was at Portsmouth, RI and he, with 28 others, signed the Portsmouth Compact of Allegiance to King Charles.
In 1642, he sold his house in Portsmouth to his brother-in-law John ANTHONY.
In 1643, he was one of the purchasers of the land for Warwick from Miantonomi- it was called 'Shawomett'. That same year the court of Massachusetts was still harassing him and was called to appear at General Court in Mass., he was sent to Rowley prision. Soldiers besieged his house in RI and his family was forced to flee to the woods and live in deprivation, three women died, including his first wife. He was released from prison, but banished from Massachusetts and Warwick in 1644. Inventory was taken in 1656, with his son appointed to settle the estate and debts. His will was only proved 16 Mar 1686. His wife was called Sarah SANFORD in the will.
