Subsequently he taught: Allentown Seminary, Loysville Academy, Chambersburg and Germantown (Perry County). He was then principal of the Loysville Academy, Markelsville Academy, High School, Petersburg (now Duncannon), Greason Academy, Boalsburg. He studied theology privately and was licensed to preach by the Lutheran Synod in 1872. He entered the Pittsburgh Lutheran Synod in 1873 and his first call was to the Fayetteville Lutheran Church.

This famous English house was founded in England by Robert, a younger brother of Ralf de Tosny (Toeni), of a noble Norman house, who was standard-bearer of the duchy.
