He succeeded his brother, Sancho I (reigned 956-66) and Sancho I's son Ramiro II (reigned 966-84). The eleventh edition of the Britannica states "one of his [Fernan Gonzales] daughters married Ordono III of Leon." [11433] Ferdinand m. 1816 Antoinette ("Antonia") Kohary (1797-1862), the only child of Prince Joseph Kohary, Chancellor to the Austrian Emperor and a member of one of the wealthiest families of Hungary. Prince Joseph persuaded the Emperor to give Antoinette the benefits of a son, causing her to inherit the Coburg estate. This was resisted by the Kohary families, and one of them, a monk named Brother Emericus Kohary, pronounced a formal curse on her descendants - see "Hessian Tapestry," David Duff (1967), p. 46.
