[54824] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 22 September 2023: "Portland - Dwight M. Haslam, 93, of Chapman Street died peacefully on Tuesday, Sept.19, 2023, at the Barron Center in Portland following a long and courageous battle with dementia. Dwight was born in Eastbrook on Dec. 6, 1929, the son of the late Harold and Mildren (Bartlett) Haslam. He graduated from Lee Academy in the Class of 1947. In 1951, Dwight enlisted and served in the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. On Feb. 4, 1955, Dwight married the love of his life, Estelle L. Farrar, in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada. Together they shared more than 68 years of marriage. Dwight was a life member of the Masonic Temple and the Anah Temple Shrine. Dwight lived in Eastbrook for a time while he worked at the Macomber Mill. He then moved to Houlton to drive truck, hauling potatoes for his brothers farm. It is in Houlton that he met Estelle and the rest of the love story is history. Together, Dwight and Estelle moved to the Ellsworth area from 1958 until 1974 when they made their permanent home in Portland, where they raised their family. While in Portland, he continued to drive truck for several different companies including Webber Oil, where he was awarded truck driver of the year. His career in truck driving spanned more than 40 years. In his spare time, he loved working on his 1941 Chevy - he had a passion for antique cars and trucks. He enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Eastbrook on Molasses Pond, where they would host many family gatherings. He enjoyed his daily morning walk of 3 miles, which he did well in to his 90s, he loved to talk and tinker and was always up for a good cup of coffee and socializing. Dwight was predeceased by three brothers, Wayne, Donnie, and Dusty, and one sister, Donna Barrows. He is survived by his wife, Estelle Haslam of Portland; a daughter, Jane and her husband William Taylor of Gray; a son, James Haslam and his companion Michele Plourde of Gorham; five grandchildren, Jessica and Quinton Donahue, Kasey and David Brady, Maximilian Haslam, Beauregard Haslam, Lyle Haslam; great-grandchildren, Carter Brady, Bailey Brady and Saul Haslam; several nieces and nephews."
