She was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Harold J. and Anne (McKenzie) Staples. Evelyn graduated from Ellsworth High School. She married her husband, Phillip D. Mason Jr., and spent her life in the Ellsworth area. She worked at several local grocery stores and worked many years in the food service department at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. Evelyns greatest pleasure was spending time at her family camp on Molasses Pond in Eastbrook. She is survived by son, Randy Mason of Waltham; daughter-in-law, Holly Mason; grandchildren, Jessica Mason of Ocala, Fla., Joshua Mason of Waltham, Stephanie Currier of Kenduskeag and Timothy Mason of Hancock; great-grandchildren, Lilia Springer, Lukas Mason, Racheal Harris, Spencer Harris, Taylor Mason and Tanner Mason; brother-in-law, Donald Mason, and wife, Jean, of Augusta; sister-in-law, Hope Linnehan of Ellsworth. She was predeceased by her husband, Phillip, D. Mason Jr.; son, P. Wayne Mason; brother, Alvin (Bud) Staples."
