[46749] "The Dallas Morning News, 28 May 2011": "Lorena (Sister) Frances Kee Smith Bubeck passed away on May 25, 2011 at the age of 89 years. She was born on September 17, 1921 into the farming family of James Noland and Bessie Kee in Olney, Texas, and was one of 10 siblings. She was educated at Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, and Richland College in Richardson, Texas. As a young girl, she was an avid horse rider - her favorite was 'Old Dan' an Appaloosa. She also disliked picking cotton during the harvest season on the family farm in the valleys of the Brazos River. She resided in Houston, Texas 27 years, and in Garland, Texas for 41 years. She was active in the deaf community. She was past president of the now defunct Dal-Tar Deaf Lioness Club and active in the Dallas Association for the Deaf and North Texas Deaf Senior Citizens. She belonged to, and was active in, several organizations of, by, and for the Deaf. Ms. Bubeck was also active in the search for family roots with her late sister, Bonnie Lee Kee Vaughan of Houston, Texas, and later Atlanta, GA. On her father's side, John E. Key and family migrated from Sethington, Yorkshire, England to colonial Virginia in 1670's. They had a plantation near Charlottesville, VA - a building called Key West still remains. The Keys/Kees branched out to North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas. Several Keys/Kees fought for the Confederacy. On their mother's side, a Captain Childers was an Indian fighter in the Blackhawk wars and then moved to Texas. He answered General Sam Houston's call to arms for the independence of Texas, and was enroute to join the Texian Army when the Battle of San Jacinto was won. She traveled extensively with her husband, Allan, to 48 states, Canada, Mexico, visiting historic and famous sites, several colleges/schools/programs for the deaf and family roots. Ms. Bubeck was predeceased in death by her parents, Jim & Bessie Kee, sisters: Bonnie Vaughan, Betty Clinton, Alene Blagg; and brothers: J.B. Kee, Jeff Kee, and Billy Kee. A 19-year cancer survivor, Ms. Bubeck is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 38 years, Allan F. Bubeck, Jr., her beloved miniature dachshunds: Cinna, Hedy, Blackie, & Tawny; 2 children: daughter, Judy Smith Robertson Roe, and son, Mark Allen Smith and partner Teresa Prazuck; 3 grandchildren: Traci Lynette Robertson Martin and husband, Stan, Chad Ashley Robertson and wife, Amanda, and Kelly Amber Roe Sweeten and husband Ronnie; 6 great-grandchildren: Ashley Marie Roe, Miranda Kay Robertson, Jordan Tyler Moran, Taylor Alexxis Moran, Kyle Edward Robertson, and Justin Franklin Robertson; 1 sister, Jimmie Cope and husband Grady; 2 brothers, Glenn Kee and wife Mary, and Charles Kee and wife Hilda; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who mourn her loss."
