[20038] Joseph was a soldier in the War for Independence. For his family, see "The History of Martha's Vineyard...," Charles E. Banks (Edgartown, MA: Dukes Co. Historical Society, 1966), Vol. 3, p. 258. They descend from Israel Luce who emigrated from Wales with his son Henry, b. 1645, who settled at Scituate, MA about 1666 and moving to Martha's Vineyard about 1670. Henry m. Remember Litchfield of Barnstable, MA (b. ca. 1644, living in Nov. 1808 when she signed legal documents). Henry's son Robert is the father of Joseph Luce (1726-1808). NSDAR 141575; NSDAC 14376. NEHGR 25:261 lists his as "Serj." in the 10th company of the 7th Massachusetts Regiment mobilized for the Battle of Louisbourg (1745). "The American Descendants of Henry Luce of Martha's Vineyard, 1640-1985," Mrs. James McCourt (9501 SE 13th St, Vancouver, WA 98664), 1985, p. 47, reports "res. Tisbury; served in Sea Coast Def. 1776 . . . m. 4 Apr 1748 Jedidah Claghorn . . . (Jedidah's "Mayflower" connection: 'NEHGR' 69 - 1915, pp. 242-243.)."

He was created 1st Lord Neville [England] on 20 November 1459. He fought in the march of the Lancastrian forces towards Shrewsbury in January 1460/61. He fought in the Battle of Towton on 29 March 1461, fighting for the Lacastrians. On 4 November 1461 his Barony was attainted, although the attainder was reversed by Parliament on 6 October 1472."

She was born in Milbridge, September 18, 1933, to Herbert Alton and Lilo (Tracy) Stanwood. She attended Milbridge High School and was a founder of the Milbridge Alumni Association. She taught Sunday School at Wyman Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the Alcyone Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Donna loved music and dancing, cooking (especially bread) cake-decorating, quilting, and embroidery. She had beautiful penmanship and loved organizing benefit dinners. Donna picked crabs, packed fish, delivered mail, was a store clerk, a bank teller, key punch operator, waitress, CNA, and bookkeeper. She also served on the Milbridge Planning Board, was a town ballot clerk, Notary Public, and Justice of the Peace. She outlived three husbands, Alfred Jordan Sr., Morton Oliver, and Elliot (Eddie) Cirone. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Viki Smith; stepson, Stephen Oliver; sister, Catherine; and brothers, Robert and Les Stanwood. She is survived by her sister, Ramona West; son and his wife, Alfred Jr. and Pam Jordan and their family; daughter and her husband, Donita and Greg Whitehead and their family; son and his wife, Harry and Ann Jordan and their family; as well as the Olivers - Royce, Clayton, Patrick, Don Marie, and Cheri and Bub Cirone. Her special namesake, Donna Jean Sawyer, was chosen family."

Christina Straub's "Straubs, Smiths and Extended Family," posted on Ancestry.com, states: "'New World Immigrants,' Vol. 2, p. 67: 'Baptized at Minfeld, September 15, 1701, son of Ludwig Fosselman in Minfeld and wife Maria Margaretha Schaeffer; married at Minfeld August 23, 1729, to Elizabetha Margaretha Probst, daughter of Christolph Probst; emigrated thirty years ago to the New Land (Document dated 1762). Brother-in-law, Johnnes Kauffmann.'
"In April 1732, Erhart was in Minfeld selling and signing over his land to his mother and sibling. They probably never lived in Overseebach. The sale was recorded in the name of Johan Erhardt Vosselmann.
"He was the first Vossellman (Fossellman) immigrant to America, arriving on October 17, 1732 on the ship 'John and William' with Johann Michael Probst, single, and Philipp Jacob Probst and his family. His history is documented in Askew's book on Vosselmann history and in 'The Brobst Chronicles.' His sister, Maria Margaretha (Vossellman) Ott, came to America in 1752
"He was granted 150 acres of land in Lynn Twp. Northampton Co., PA in 1738. The property lay near the western edge of Lynn Twp, between Ontelaunee Creek and Kistler's Creek, just east of Mathias Probst's and Michael Brobst's property.
"The ship 'John and William,' Captain: Constable Tymperton, sailed from Rotterdam by way of Dover, England and arrived in Philadelphia Oct. 17, 1732. 'Hans Earhart Vosselmann' was listed among the passengers, as well as 'Philip Jacob Probst' from Oberseebach in Alsace, with his wife Anna Katharina and children Johannes Michael, 11, Johannes Valentin, 8, Johannes Martin, 6, and Anna Maria, 1."
