[785] The daughter of Baldwin V, Maud, married William the Conqueror (William I of England); she is also known as Matilda of Flanders. Baldwin V was Count 1036-67 and "greatly extended his power", obtaining from the Emperor the area between the Scheldt and Dender as an imperial fief along with the marggravate of Antwerp, Valenciennes and the Isles of Zealand. He subseqently further increased his territories by another rich accession, that of the citadel of Ghent. Shriber Jr.; he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Alan Abbey of Sarasota, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Sterling (Scott) and Suzanne Shriber of Akron; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Shriber Laughlinof Bath; six grandchildren andfour great-grandchildren. Services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday at St. Pauls Episcopal Church with Dr. Richard L. McCandless officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park."
