Ralph was born in Bucksport, June 10, 1939, to Maynard and Laura Clement and a lifelong resident of Bucksport, class of 1957. He later met and married his devoted wife, Jean Chambers Clement, June 16, 1960, and together they raised their 5 children. Ralph worked many different trades, with the majority of his years 'Moving the Earth' for Wardwell and Lane Construction Company until his retirement. Faithful in everything he did, he loved his family, church family, the Awana youth program, operating heavy machinery, working in the woods, and helping others. Ralph will be missed greatly by his wife Jean of 59 years, and their children Loretta (Bruce)Steele, Elsie (Chris) Goyette, both of Billerica, Massachusetts, Melissa (Robert) Stubbs, Marcus (Suzanne) Clement both of Bucksport, along with his 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and siblings Virginia, Bertha, Floyd, Norman, Ramona, and Rozina, and many nieces and nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his son Scott Clement, brother Edmund, and sister Winona."

Mr Pigman owned steamboats that moved between New Orleans and Havana, Cuba. At the outbreak of the Civil War he joined the Confederate States Army as Lieutenant in the 8th Florida Regiment, was taken prisoner at Gettysburg and imprisoned on Johnsons Island in Ohio. The Pigman home at Wake Key, Florida, was destroyed in an attack by Federal gunboats and Mrs. Pigman came to Savannah with her son to live with her sister. After the war, the Pigmans moved to Macon, Georgia, where William worked in a drug firm, William Augusts Pigman, his son, started working in the drugstore at the age of 15. He came to Savannah at 19 years-old and bought a drug business there. He married Edna A. Breeze of Rome New York; she was a well-known poet in Savannah.

The entries of April and May 1863 relate to his last battle experience and his capture. The remainder of the diary was written at Fort Delaware and on Johnsons Island, where William was a prisoner of war. Also a diary that belonged to Mary T. Pigman (Wife) and includes an account of her visit to her husband at Johnsons Island prison.
