He was in the grocery business at Sullivan Harbor a number of yeors and in 1927 he established the L. A. Gray Co. in Hancock. He was a prominent grain feed and wholesale dealer for many years. He was a director of the company until his death. He retired from active business in 1960 and had been a blueberry grower since then. He was a 50-year member of David A. Hooper lodge of Masons, Sullivan. He had served a number of years on the Sullivan Budget Committee and with others had sponsored several local baseball teams. He is survived by his wife, Mary Gordon Gray of Sullivan; one son, Carle G. Gray of Sullivan; four daughters; Mrs. Philip (Barbara) Martin, Jr. of Sullivan, Mrs. George (Sylvia) Noyes of Brewer, Mrs. Keith (Joan) Hovey of Hampden, and Mrs. Kenneth (Freda) Masse of East Vassalboro; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two nephews, and three cousins."
