Sadie MAY be of this family, shared by Amy Bond (abond2000@home.com) via email 20 May 2001: Johann Heinrich Kempker born 1797 in Hamburg, Germany married about 1831 to Mary (Maria?) A. Nichting who was also from Hamburg. They had one child together, Mary (Maria) A. Kempker and shortly afterwards the mother, Mary Nichting, died about 1832. Johann remarried to a woman named Mary Hellman in about 1833 and they had a son, Gerhard (Gerrett) Heinrich Kempker born in 1834. They left for America later that year, and Mary Hellman Kempker died shortly after arriving in the United States in Cleveland, Ohio. Johann took his children to Lee County, Iowa along with a business partner, Barney Sand, and his sister Mary who Johann later married. The daughter, Mary, later married a Joseph Harmeyer (Harmeier) of West Point, Iowa. Gerhard later married Maria C. Gertrude Menke (also from Germany) and they had several children, only 5 of whom lived to maturity. Those were: Henry J. Kempker, John Herman Kempker, John Gerhard Kempker (Amy's grandfather), Christina Kempker, Gerhard M. Kempker.
Sadie is in the household of her father, John Kempker, in the 1900 federal census at West Point, Lee Co., IA.

See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 143. Sir William was a Magna Charta Surety, and Sheriff of Somerset and Dorset. An adult by 1196, he was sheriff of Somerset and Dorset in 1209, Magna Charta Surety in 1215. http://www.ott.igs.net/~rhmallett/families/fip00993.htm reports: "The Curry Mallet line ends with William II. His daughters Helewise and Mabel married Hugh Poyntz and Hugh de Vivonia respectively, and most of the Malet lands passed to these two families, with the exception of those lands held by the Malets residing at Enmore Castle."
"Vol II File 16: The Paternal Ancestry of Homer Beers James" at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/james/f033.htm states: "William II Malet, the Surety of the Magna Charta, was mentioned in 1194 as a minor, in connection with an expedition made that year into Normandy. His principal estate was Curry-Malet. From 1210 to 1214 he was Sheriff of the counties of Somerset and Dorset. When he joined with the barons against King John and became one of the twenty-five Sureties his lands in four counties were confiscated and given to his son-in-law, Hugh de Vivonia, and to his father-in-law, Thomas Basset, and Malet was excommunicated by the Pope in 1216. He was also fined 2,000 marks, but this remained unpaid until after his death, and at that time 1,000 marks were remitted, being found due him for military service to King John at Poitou. It is interesting to note that there were five contemporary relatives named William Malet, and they all held lands in England or in Jersey. He died about 1217, having married Mabel (Alice) (Alicia) Basset, daughter of Thomas Basset, of Headington. She survived him and married (2) John Biset."
