The men in the family were caulkers in local shipyards and also farmed. William and Charles Snowman purchased the store of Obed Leach (lot 88) in 1833 according to Mark E. Honey - the store was at the intersection of Routes 199 and 175. The 1850 federal census in Penobscot, Hancock Co., ME lists him and his family.
