The Wing Family by Beatrice Wing Carroll, 1986 "John Wing was a son of Matthew and Mary Wynge and married Deborah Bachiler, daughter of Rev. Stephen Bachiler. They immgirated to Holland and returned to England in 1630, intending to immigrated with a group to be led by his father-in-law, Rev. Stephen Bachiler, to Massachusetts. John died in England the same year at the age of 46. Deborah and the family immigrated, with her father, to Suagus, Massachusetts in 1632, moving to Sandwich, Massachusetts in 1637.

The former was probably named in Old English as the settlement of the Wiwingas the family or followers of a man named Wiwa, or alternatively perhaps the people of the temple (from a derivative of Old English wig, weoh (pre-Christian) temple). The latter is from Old Norse vengi, a derivative of vangr field."
