Surviving are his wife, Helen; two sons, Scott and John, both of Shelby; one granddaughter; three sisters, Betty Krumlaw and Caroline Fisher, both of Ashland, and Louise Donley of Baltimore, Md. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister."

Thumma on December 1, 1992 in Phoenix, Arizona. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arthur Zuercher, Norman Zuercher, and William 'Bill' Zuercher and two sisters, Harriet Gibson and Lillian Montgomery. Surviving are three children, H. Peter (Holly) Borgen of Maple Grove, MN, Constance (Gary) Geick of Brimfield, and Kathryn (Don) LePoidevin of Salem, OR; two step-children, James (Becky) Thumma of Martinsville, OH and Mary J.
