[17527] The 1800 census seems to place James near his parents in the vicinity of Pierce's Pond, Penobscot. Mark E. Honey states that James received his parents' property, lot 89 in Penobscot, but part of this lot was acquired in 1824 by William Carpenter who r. there until his death in the 1850s. The 1850 federal census in Penobscot, Hancock Co., ME lists him adjacent to his son, James. For a detailed history of the area, see "Penobscot,Maine 1761-2011," Mark E. Honey (Bangor, ME: Snowman Printing, 2011) [distrubted by the Penobscot Historical Society].

Boyer states "He was originally from Noron, Calvados, which was a little west of Falaise, which in turn was a bailiwick of Roger de Montgomery's vicomté of Oximin." Boyer remarks (p. 190) "Wem was the seat of William Pantolph's barony, which included eleven manors in Odenet Hundred in the northeast of Shropshire."
