Amos and his descendants are from Bjorn Swenson in 2012 who reports he wrote two songs of the sea: "The Schooner Fred Dunbar" and "A Trip to the Grand Banks." Went to sea; didn't return; deserted family or was lost at sea (there is one family legend that his ship was lost in the Bermuda Triangle during a major storm). The unverified "Bjorns Ancestors" in 2020 in Ancestry.com reports that the ship left Boston, MA in January 1890 "Bound for Cayenne, French Guiana - crew disappeared".
Amos had a reputation as a poet. He married Katie Patten (sister of Sam Patten) of Orland, Maine. His father willed to Amos his land (about 30 acres) lying on the south side of the county road leading from Castine to Blue Hill in the town of Penobscot. 1860 Census for Penobscot, ME lists: Amos W. Hanson, 20 Fisherman living with parents, John and Lucy Newberry Wardwell Hanson. 1870 Census for Penobscot, ME lists Amos Hanson, 29; Katie, 23; Winifred, 5. 1880 Census for Orland, ME list Amos Hanson, 39; Katie M., 33; Winifred S, 15; Hallie (entry looks like "Harry"), 9; Ike S. (this would be Raymond I.), 7; and Roy E., 5. Was a musician in Co. I 1st Regiment Infantry and Co. K 9th Regiment according to Adjutant General's Book.
