[9322] George was born and raised on the Loy farm at Centre Church. He owned and managed the Mt. Demsey House in Landisburg, was an auctioneer and about 1912 moved to Carlisle where he opened a second-hand furniture store. In 1900 he is listed as a farmer in Tyrone Twp., Perry Co. The Sentinel [Carlisle, PA}, 22 April 1924, p. 8: George W. Loy, well known merchant and auctioneer, died at his home, on West Louther Street, a short distance west of Pitt, about 7 o'clock this morning, aged 68 years. He had been In failing health for some time, and his death was caused by heart failure superinduced by inflammatory rheumatism. He was seriously ill for a week. The family moved here from Loysville, Perry County, twelve years ago, and for nine years Mr. Loy was in the auction business and also conducted a store on West Louther Street, in the building formerly used as the Union engine house. He was a member or the Blain Lodge of Odd Fellows. Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children: Guy Loy, of Steelton: Sarah, of Philadelphia; Mrs. William Sparks and Mrs.Harry Yutzler, of Philadelphia; and by two grandchildren. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: James R. Loy, Carlisle; Linn Loy, of St. Paul, Minn.; William D. Loy, of Newport ; Mrs. J. R. Wilson, of Landisburg, and Edwin Loy, of Loysville.
