[2566] Boleslaus II extended his rule over Bohemia, Moravia, much of Silesia and the part of Poland which was later to be in the Austrian province of Galicia. He founded the bishopric of Prague in 973 and saw Christianity firmly established in the dukedom. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/james/f015.htm offers: "He maintained good relations with the Germans, and it was in large measure owing to this that the favorite project of his father was realized in 973. The Bishopric of Prague was founded, and the Bohemian Church detached from its dependence upon the German see of Resenburg, who was instrumental in the expansion of Germanism at the expense of Slavdom. Christianization and political development went side by side, and after a series of wars with Germans and Poles, Bohemia may be said to have found her natural boundaries by the beginning of the eleventh century. These were set by the Treaty of 1013 with the Emperor Henry II." Cf. [21395] Lawrence and Judith also had Dependence, born 15 Feb 1646, Josiah, born 1647, and Experience (d. 1673). NEHGR (1848) 2:64 states that Lawrence was among the first settlers (1640) of Barnstable, MA. NEHGR (1855) 9:181 presents a genealogy of Lawrence Littlefield by the Rev. Asner Morse which reports that he was a member of the Boston Artillery Co. in 1640 and on the muster roll in 1643 at Barnstable. See James Savage, "A Genealogical Dictionary of The First Settlers of New England, Before 1692," (Boston: Little, Brown, 1860-1862), Vol. 3: "[Litchfield] Lawrence, Barnstable 1640, thot. to be progenit. of all of this name in N. Ancestry.com offers: "Litchfield Name Meaning - habitational name from Lichfield in Staffordshire. The first element preserves a British name recorded as Letocetum during the Romano-British period. This means 'gray wood', from words which are the ancestors of Welsh llwyd 'gray' and coed 'wood'. By the Old English period this had been reduced to Licced, and the element feld 'pasture', 'open country' was added to describe a patch of cleared land within the ancient wood. habitational name from Litchfield in Hampshire, recorded in Domesday Book as Liveselle. This is probably from an Old English hlif 'shelter' + Old English scylf 'shelf', 'ledge'. The subsequent transformation of the place name may be the result of folk etymological association with Old English hliĆ°, hlid 'slope' + feld 'open country'."
