[17369] Shearjashub m. ca. 1673 Bathsheba Skiff (b. Sandwich 26 April 1648, d. there 13 May 1714, sister of the wife of Elisha Bourne). For information and children, see NEHGR 116:203-05, 210-14. Albert Douglass Hart, Jr. in "Our Folk", on the Web at http://www.aritek.com/hartgen/htm/bourne.htm, offers: "Shearjashub - was so named to express his father's wish - Isaiah 7:3 means - a remnant shall return (to carry on work). Successfully carried on his father's work among the Indians. In the 17th century, missionary Richard Bourne tried unsuccessfully to have the Plymouth Court record a deed confirming the title of the Wampanoag to land between what are now the Santuit and Childs rivers. He died in 1682 without achieving his goal. Three years later, his son, Shearjashub Bourne, succeeded where his father had failed. The court confirmed the title of the 'South Sea Indians,' as the Wampanoag were sometimes called, to the land and said none of it could be purchased by the English without the consent of all the Indians. Nine children - including Judge Meletiah Bourne who married Desire Howland the daughter of John Howland and Hope Tilley. Was often a representative of Plymouth Colony and the Province of Mass." See chart and information about Shearjashub and his family and descendants in "American Ancestors, Spring 2017," (Boston, MA, NEHGS), pp. 35 ff.

[30590] http://www.thepeerage.com offers: "He was the son of Sir Henry de Grey and Eleanor de Courtenay. He married Joan FitzPayn, daughter of Sir Robert FitzPayn, 1st Lord FitzPayn. He died circa 10 March 1334/35. From 4 March 1308/9 to 23 February 1334/35 called to Parlialment but under the more rigorous rules of evidence required today the lack of proof of an actual sitting has been held to militate against the ascription of an actual peerage creation. In 1321 he was pardoned for any action of his hostile to King Edward II's favourites, the Despensers. He held the office of Steward of Gascony in 1324. He held the office of Constable of Nottingham Castle between 1325 and 1330." Cf. "The history of the borough, castle, and barony of Alnwick, Volume 1," George Tate (Alnwick: H.H. Blair, 1866-69) , p. 184.
She is an alternate for Roger's wife, Isabella Plantagenet. This identification of Roger's wife is supported by Hal Bradley, "A Royal Descent for John Stratton" (Boston: NEHGR, Vol. 100 [April 1006], p. 105): "Henry II, King of England . . . had an illegitimate son by his mistress Ida de Toeni, later wife of Roger le Bigod, Earl of Norfolk." Bradley then gives (pp. 106ff.) a descent from this son, William I Longespée.
http://www.geneajourney.com/bigod.html states Ida is "probable daughter of Sir Ralph V de Toeni and Margaret de Beaumont. She was b abt 1158. Children of Roger Bigod and Ida were: (1)Margaret Bigod b abt 1182, Thetford, Norfolk, England, d 31 Mar 1237; md Sir William de Hastings abt 1196. (2) Sir Hugh Bigod, Earl of Norfolk, b abt 1185. (3) Alice Bigod b abt 1188, Thetford, Norfolk, England; md Sir Aubrey IV de Vere, Earl of Oxford. (4) Mary Bigod b abt 1192, Thetford, Norfolk, England. She md Sir Ralph Fitz Randolf, Lord of Middleham, abt 1205, son of Sir Robert Fitz Ralph, Lord of Middleham, and Helewise de Glanville."
