[46892] "Lincoln Beacon, 29 June 1893": "John Coil died of cancer, June 21, 1893, aged 76 years, 8 months and 3 days, at the home of his son-in-law, John Pinkerton of Lincoln. He was born in Stark county, Ohio, Oct. 15, 1817, and moved to Marshall county, Ind., in 1886. From there he moved to Harrison county, Mo., in May 1865; and to Lincoln county, Kan., March 23, 1878. He was married Feb. 3, 1839, to Miss Elizabeth Helper [sic], who, with four children, survive him. His surviving children reside in this county, as follows: Mrs. John Pinkerton and Mrs. Logan Fancher, at Lincoln, Uriah and William Coil, at Herman, eight miles northwest of Lincoln. Mr. Coil engaged in farming, milling and auctioneering at different times in his life and had handled a large volume of business. He was a church member most of the time since arriving at man's estate and was much respected as a man of generous impulses and honorable life. The funeral was held at Mr. Pinkerton's home and the interment was made in the old Pfaff cemetery." Mrs. Whitcomb had been seriously ill for the past two months and had been a patient at the Delaware Hospital from March 3 until about a month ago when she was transferred to the Eugene duPont Memorial Convalescent Hospital, she suffered a relapse and was returned to the Delaware Hospital about two weeks ago. A native of Maryland, she had lived in Wilmington most of her life and for a number of years, up to her recent illness, was in charge of the Economy Cleaners office at Twenty-third and Market Streets. Mrs. Whitcomb is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ernest D. Lamborn, Jr., 359 South College Avenue, Newark, former secretary to the superintendent of the Mt. Pleasant Special School District; two sisters in Wilmington, Mrs. Ethel Thomas Lisakoff, Concord Avenue, a beautician, and Mrs. Charles Faulkner, and a brother, Conrad Faulkner, also of Wilmington; three sisters and two brothers in Maryland, and a grandson, Dix Lamborn. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Monday at the McCrery Funeral Home 200; Washington Street, where friends may call after 7 p. m Sunday. Interment will be at Hockessin Friends Burying Grounds."
