[51851] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 26 February 2014": "Ellsworth and Brewer - Ralph Marden Dunbar, 90, the husband of Jacqueline (Wescott) died Feb., 25, 2014, at a local nursing facility. He was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Trenton, the eldest son of J. Marden and Caroline (Royal) Dunbar. He graduated from Ellsworth High, in 1941, and graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1949. Ralph joined the service in 1941 proudly serving his country and was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a machine gun section leader with the 78th Infantry Division. He was severely wounded in Obergartzen, Germany, and spent months recovering and was awarded a Purple Heart. He met his bride Jackie from the Ellsworth area and they were married in 1947. Ralph was employed by the Maine Department of Transportation for 30 years retiring as a Division Engineer. He was a lifetime member of the Masons for over 45 years and a past member of the First Congregational Church of Brewer for many years where he served as a Trustee and Deacon of the church. In addition to his wife of 66 years, Ralph is survived by his two sons, Bruce and wife, Lisa, of Chapin, S.C., and Michael and his significant other, Kathy Hall, of Brewer; one brother, Harold of Ellsworth; two sisters, Carolyn and her husband, James Patten, of Ellsworth, and Kathleen and her husband, Wesley Cook, of York Beach; grandsons, Ryan Dunbar and girlfriend, Amy Chase, of Peru, and Colin Dunbar of Connecticut; granddaughters, Kristi Santos and husband, Nate, of Amherst, Kami Dunbar of California, Bethany McWade and husband, Jay, and Alyse Baillargeon and husband, Ed, both of Connecticut; one stepgrandchild, Laren Rosella and husband, Kevin, of North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren, Jakob Paterson of South Carolina, Kylie, Katelyn, Trafton and Garrett Santos, of Amherst, Landon Baillargeon and Molly McWade, both of Connecticut; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Kadyn Rosella of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Michelle Dunbar of Brewer; a sister, Mary Bedard of Ellsworth; and one brother, Keith of Bucksport. Among Ralph's favorites pastimes was relaxing at Georges Pond, flying his plane, playing golf, skiing and snowmobiling. His happiest times were spent with his loving wife and family at his side."
