Margaret Bates offers on her Web site (2003):
JAMES6 BOYDSTUN, JR. (JAMES5, DAVID4 BOYDSTON, WILLIAM3 BOYLSTON, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born Bet. 1760 - 1776 in Frederick Co, MD -- (SEE NOTES!!), and died Bet. 1822 - 1830 in Hornsby, Hardeman Co, TN. He married SARAH .. Abt. 1781 in prob Washington Co, TN. She was born Bet. 1750 - 1760 in Neely? Alvis? Boyd? Carroll? (see notes), and died Aft. 1830 in prob. Hardeman Co, TN.
Notes for JAMES BOYDSTUN, JR.: Again, the discrepancy in dates causes a problem with the data of Gladys Domonoske and other researchers. According to Domonoske, James (III) was born 1782, the first child of James Boydstun, Jr. and Sarah Alvis (see notes on Sarah Alvis), but her date of birth for James Jr. is 1760, and that of the DAR is 1776. Gladys Domonoske also attributes Revolutionary service to James Boydstun, Jr., and states that he served from Southwest Virginia. He has not been recognized as a Revolutionary Patriot by the DAR in Volumes I or III, which simply means no one has joined DAR on that particular line. This is not definitive proof that he did not serve, and these volumes do not contain all ancestors recognized by DAR.
Shirley Nobles Erickson (shirley@htcomp.net) gives the birth of James Jr. as 1760 near Hagerstown, Frederick Co, Maryland; died before 1830 in Hornsby, Hardeman County, Tennessee. Married Sarah Alvis in 1781. She lists the following children:
1. James b. 1782 md. Mary DePreist
2. Nancy b. 1784 md. John Duncan
3. Rhoda b. 1786 md. John Gage
4. Robert Washington b. 1788 md. Rachel Griffith
5. Cynthia b. 1790 md. Burt N. Williamson
6. Lezana b. 1792
7. Tabitha b. 1794
8. Melinda b. 1796 md. James Holland 1826
9. Kezia b. 1798
10. John Pruitt b. 1800
11. William Alvis b. 1801 md. Martha DePreist
I feel certain that the above Melinda is not the one who married James Holland.
Because extensive information exists on this family, I have chosen to use the span of dates for James Jr.'s birth 1760-1776 in order to accomodate the children recorded by Gladys Domonoske and others. I'm sure this will erupt in considerable confusion, and in some quarters, a bit of outrage. At some later date, perhaps a researcher will be able to correct the dates and the children of James Boydstun, Jr. and decide who he was really married to!
Notes for SARAH ..: The wife of James Boydstun, Jr. is another sticking point separating the research of Gladys Domonoske from others. She states that the wife of James, Jr. is Sarah Alvis, daughter of Ashley Alvis and ? Carroll Alvis. A second child of Ashley and ? Carroll Alvis is James, born about 1782, who married Mary DePriest. Coincidentally, a son of James Boydstun, Jr. and Sarah (whoever) was named James and married a Mary DePriest.
Morman records show James married to Sarah Neely and also Sarah Carroll. Still another family account shows James married to Sarah Boyd, daughter of WIlliam and Keziah Boyd. The DAR lists Sarah Neely, and this is the spouse I tend to accept, because of the reasons listed at notes for James Boydstun, Sr. The confusion on this is evidence with other researchers. One, Kimberly Burrows, lists James Jr. married to both Sarah Alvis and Sarah Carroll, and states that the marriage date for BOTH was 1781. She shows no children for Sarah Carroll, so this is doubtless a way to accommodate both the names.
Marriage Notes for JAMES BOYDSTUN and SARAH ..: Note that the last two children, William T. and John G. were added from the notes of Chuck Boydstun. I did not previously have these two.
Children of JAMES BOYDSTUN and SARAH .. are:
58. i. JAMES7 BOYDSTUN III, b. 1782, Washington Co, TN; d. Unknown, Claiborne Co, TN.
ii. NANCY BOYDSTUN, b. 01 Oct 1784, Washington Co, TN; d. 23 May 1823, Bowling Green, Warren Co, KY; m. JOHN F. DUNCAN, Unknown, had children; b. Unknown; d. Unknown, Res 1850 Hardeman Co, TN.
59. iii. RHODA BOYDSTON, b. 25 Jan 1786, Union Twp, Washington Co, TN; d. 1860, Marble, Madison Co, AR.
60. iv. ROBERT WASHINGTON BOYDSTUN, b. Abt. 1788, Washington Co, TN; d. 08 Jul 1841, White Co, AR.
v. CYNTHIA BOYDSTUN, b. 1790, Rutherford Co, NC; d. Aft. 1840, Res Jackson Co, AR 1840; m. BURT N. WILLIAMSON, 19 Jul 1838, Hardeman Co, TN; had at least 2 sons & 1 dau; b. Unknown; d. Bef. 1840.
vi. LEZENA BOYDSTUN, b. 1792, Rutherford Co, NC; d. Unknown.
vii. TABITHA BOYDSTUN, b. 1794, Rutherford Co, NC; d. Unknown.
viii. MALINDA BOYDSTUN, b. 1796, Rutherford Co, NC SEE NOTES; d. Unknown.
Notes for MALINDA BOYDSTUN: Edwin Leigh Tucker's lineage adds three daughters to the marriage of James & Sarah Boydstun, which fit neatly into a large gap between children. However, his information on Malinda may be correct for birth, but it is incorrect for marriage to James B. Holland. James B. Holland married Malinda, daughter of Benjamin G. Boydstun. Shirley Nobles Erickson (shirley@htcomp.net) repeats this marriage error in her research.
ix. KEZIAH BOYDSTUN, b. 1798, Warren Co, KY; d. Aft. 1850, unmarried; Yalobusha Co, MS 1850.
Notes for KEZIAH BOYDSTUN: Lesli Danielson shows that Kesiah Boydstun was born 1793, married John Bishop, and died after 1850. She says their daughter Keziah Whitely Bishop married William Modicia Cockrell.
61. x. JOHN PRUITT BOYDSTUN, b. 1800, Warren Co, KY; d. Unknown.

[600] Lionel was married before age four to Elizabeth, heiress of Clare, whence his title, Duke of Clare(nce). He was also Earl of Ulster by appointment of his father, King Edward III, landing at Dublin in September 1361 as governor of Ireland. He was created Duke of Clarence in November, 1362. In 1363 his father tried in vain to secure for Lionel the succession to the crown of Scotland. Unsuccessful in subduing Ireland, despite holding a parliament at Kilkenny which passed a famous statue in 1366, he withdrew to England. He married (2) 28 May 1368 Violante, only daughter of Galeazzo Visconti, Lord of Pavia; "some months were then spent in festivities, during which Lionel was taken ill at Alba, where he died.... The poet Chaucer was at one time a page in Lionel's household." {-Encycl.Brit.,'56,5:757.}
