[1851] Simon IV was a leader in the crusade against the Albigenses and was twice on crusade in Palestine (in which he was a leader). In 1207 he was confirmed in the possession of the earldom of Leicester as nephew and heir of Robert de Beaumont, 4th Earl (d. 1204). "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 160, states Simon m. Amice de Beaumont of Leicester (who d. 3 Sept 1215, having m. secondly William be Barres; Boyer perhaps wrongly asserts that Simon IV is actually grandson of Simon III via a Simon who m. [30762] Oscar Nye's ancestry in "Nye Family Connections I" in Ancestry.com in 2010 provides this line which he extends - Randolf is son of Bertolf (1440-1470) who is son of Niles (1400-1470) who is son of Marten (1345-1445) who is son of Sven Ney, etc. Ancestry.com offers: "Nye Name Meaning - English (southeastern): topographic name arising from a misdivision of Middle English atten (e)ye which means either 'at the river' or 'at the island', from Old English ea 'river' and eg 'island' respectively. Both these words were feminine in Old English, and so should have been preceded only by Middle English atter (see Rye), but distinctions of gender ceased to be carefully maintained in the Middle English period."
