Finally, after negotiating, Violante returned home but never was really reconciled with her husband. Violante spent several years in Castile consecrating her life to pious works, but occasionally made her way back to the political scene supporting for example her son Sancho, who had started a rebellion against her estranged husband, the king."

That was the beginning of a distinguished career. By the year 1940 he was appointed Chief Engineer of the railroad. This was followed by promotions to General Manager (1953), Executive Vice President (1965), President (1962), and finally chairman of the Board (1971). He retired in 1971. He moved to Houlton in 1931 when he first went to work for the railroad. He moved to Bangor in 1952."
