Agnes' obituary from Find A Grave memorial 188247812: "Agnes Arlene (Gray) Diffin, 94, of Waterville, passed quietly away on March 4, 2017 at the Lakewood Continuing Care Center.
She was born in Wesley, Maine on April 3, 1923, the daughter of Roger A. Gray and Minerva (Sharman) Gray.
Agnes graduated from Washington Academy in Machias and Washington State Normal School in Machias. She graduated from the University of Maine, Orono in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree, returning later to earn a Master of Science degree in education. A thesis which she wrote at the University of Maine was on the social history of Machias.
Agnes taught school in Marshfield; Greenville; Lincoln; Fairborn, OH; New Britain, CT.; Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada; Clark Air Force Base, Philippine Islands; Wiesbaden, Germany; Sculthorpe, England; Newfoundland, Canada; New Canaan, CT.; and Limestone, ME. Many of these teaching positions were at United States Air Force bases.
During her career teaching at the various Air Force bases, Agnes took the opportunity to tour dozens of countries around the world. She documented her travels, as well as many family gatherings, with thousands of photographs, slides, and home movies, which she enjoyed sharing with her parents and extended family of brothers, sister, cousins, nieces and nephews.
On June 24, 1967, Agnes married Darrell F. Diffin, a widower with one son who was also her second cousin once-removed. She and Darrell lived at the top of Sharman (also called Bearman) Hill in Robbinston, with a beautiful view of Passamaquoddy Bay.
Agnes continued to teach in Limestone until she retired. After retirement she enjoyed sewing and needlework projects, making apple pies for Darrell, and a few years later, helping care for her aging mother during the summers in Robbinston.
After her husband died in 1997, Agnes moved to East Vassalboro, to be closer to family, and continued to help care for her mother. While living in East Vassalboro, she attended the Vassalboro Methodist Church and had many friends in the area. In her later years, due to health concerns, she moved into assisted living facilities in Waterville, the last one being Lakewood. Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Darrell; her step-son, Gary L. Diffin; her brothers, Allen S. Gray and L. Austin Gray;
her sister and brother-in-law, Maxine (Gray) Robbins and Gerald Robbins, and three nephews. She is survived by one brother, (redacted) Gray of North Vassalboro,
one sister-in-law, (redacted) (Bartley) Gray of East Vassalboro, her step-granddaughter, (redacted) Diffin and her husband (redacted) Martin, of Washington, D.C.;
several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews."

[11545] http://84.1911encyclopedia.org/S/ST/STAFFORD_FAMILY_.htm offers: "The marriage of . . . Thomas, the 3rd earl, in 1392 to the daughter and eventual heiress of Thomas, duke of Buckingham (son of Edward III.), by a coheiress of the great house of Bohun, proved a decisive turning-point in the history of the Staffords; for, although he died childless, this great lady, styled countess of Stafford, Buckingham, Hereford and Northampton in her will, married in 1398 his brother Edmund, the 5th earl, who obtained, in addition to her great possessions, her ancestors office of lord high constable in 1403, but was slain the same year at Shrewsbury, commanding the van of the kings host. Their son, Humphrey (1402-1460), the first Stafford duke of Buckingham, was placed by his descent and his possessions in the front rank of the English nobility." Rhys pursued his claim to the kingdom at the Battle of Mynydd Carn in 1081, assisted by Gruffydd ap Cynan; King William I of England confirmed his claim. "A Guide to Irish Roots," William & Mary Durning, p. II-114, states that from his son, Hywel, descend the Rice and Price families. Cf. http://www.thepeerage.com/p5142.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhys_ap_Tewdwr.
http://yba.llgc.org.uk/en/s-RHYS-APT-1093.html offers: "Rhys ap Tewdwr (d. 1093), king of Deheubarth; grandson of Cadell ab Einion ab Owain ap Hywel Dda. In 1075 he took possession of Deheubarth on the death of his second-cousin, Rhys ab Owain ab Edwin (q.v.). In 1081 he was dislodged by Caradog ap Gruffydd (q.v.), but later in the year, with the help of Gruffudd ap Cynan (q.v.), he was firmly reinstated after the historic battle of Mynydd Cam. In the same year William the Conqueror made a demonstration of power in South Wales, traversing the land as far as S. Davids; it is reasonably certain that during the visit the two kings came to an agreement as to their future good relations, which lasted to the end of William's reign. A few years later it is recorded that Rhys is paying the king £40 a year for Deheubarth, thereby becoming a vassal of the Norman Crown and establishing a precedent with lasting consequences on Anglo-Welsh relations. Henceforth, with the exception of the closing tragedy of his career, Rhys had only to contend with the jealousies of his fellow princes. In 1088 he was attacked by the young rulers of Powys and was obliged to seek refuge in Ireland, but he soon returned and, with Danish help, decisively defeated his opponents (see Madog, Rhiryd, and Cadwgan ap Bleddyn). Again in 1091 he was opposed by a group of his own vassals in Dyfed, who sought to restore the kingship to the senior line of Hywel Dda in the person of Gruffydd ap Maredudd ab Owain. At Llandudoch (S. Dogmaels) on the Teifi the rebels were defeated and Gruffydd killed. Meanwhile the Norman conquest of the south had gathered a new momentum after William's death in 1087, and among the territories then being over-run was the old kingdom of Brycheiniog. It was while resisting the Norman advance in this all-important approach to his own dominions that Rhys was killed in uncertain circumstances near Aberhonddu (Brecon). He was virtually the last of the ancient kings of Deheubarth, and it was in a different political setting that the power of the dynasty was eventually revived by his grandson Rhys ap Gruffydd (q.v.). He m. Gwladus, daughter of Rhiwallon ap Cynfyn (q.v.). He was survived by two sons, Gruffydd ap Rhys (q.v.) and Hywel, and by a daughter, Nest (q.v.)."
