[30623] Johnson r. Union, Van Buren Co., AR at the time of the 1850 federal census. His parents are Joshua James (b. 1808 in TN, d. 1921 in TN) and Nancy Powell (1816-1899), both shown in Union, Van Buren Co., AR in 1850, and in Dallas, TX in 1860, and in Lauderdale, AL in 1870, and in Johnson Co., TX in 1880 - this information is suspicious, for example did Joshau really live to 113? This information is from the Boydstun Family Tree in Ancestry.com. Ancestry.com offers: "James Name Meaning - English: from a personal name that has the same origin as Jacob. However, among English speakers, it is now felt to be a separate name in its own right. This is largely because in the Authorized Version of the Bible (1611) the form James is used in the New Testament as the name of two of Christs apostles (James the brother of John and James the brother of Andrew), whereas in the Old Testament the brother of Esau is called Jacob. The form James comes from Latin Jacobus via Late Latin Jac(o)mus, which also gave rise to Jaime, the regular form of the name in Spanish (as opposed to the learned Jacobo). See also Jack and Jackman. This is a common surname throughout the British Isles, particularly in South Wales."

[1659] M. Aethelred by 986; m. after his death Canute the Great; as Canute's widow worked hard to secure England for her son Hardicanute, resulting in her banishment in 1037 (returning in 1040); Edward the Confessor siezed most of her wealth in 1043; she lived in retirement at Winchester. Her marriage to Aethelred linked England and Normandy. See Alison Weir, "Britain's Royal Family: A Complete Genealogy" (London, U.K.: The Bodley Head, 1999), page 23. http://www.guide2womenleaders.com/womeninpower/Womeninpower1000.htm offers: "Also known as Alfgifu, and is thought to have been sharing the royal lordship with her husband, King Æthelred II of England, who died 1116, but her power seems to have been limited by the fact that she was his second or third wife. In the years 1013-16 England was conquered by King Knud of Denmark, 1014-15 she and her husband sought refuge by her relatives in Normandy. Knud defeated her stepson and claimed the throne. Her marriage to him was both a sign of reconciliation and a demonstration of his power with her as the symbol of both the English defeat and continuity. And it became the culmination of her power and she became the most visible Queen so far. During Knud's frequent visits to Denmark, where he had become king in 1019, her role was close to that of a regent. When Knud died, his son from an earlier marriage, Harald Harefod, claimed the throne and she had to fight to secure the interests of her own son. She maintained the control of the treasury and tax collection from her Dowry in the City of Winchester. When Harald's grip on England strenghtened, she was send in exile to Flanders, but when he died in 1040, she returned to England with her son, Hardeknud, and during his two years on the throne, she again shared the power, but when her oldest son, Edward succeeded to the throne, he confiscated her estates and trasures and she withdrew permanently to Winchester."
