[14228] Edward arrived in Portsmouth, NH in 1621 and is called "Father of New Hampshire." In 1623 he and brother William began the settlement of Dover, NH where he r. until 1671. He was Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. Before emigrating to America he was apprenticed to Marie, widow of Charles Hilton of the Fishmongers Co. (1611) and became a Freeman of that Guild in England. He m. (2) in July, 1650 Catherine Shapleigh (ca. 1600-1676). His residence was the South Newmarket section of present Exeter, NH. Cf. Dunbar, passed away September 2, 2022, at a Brewer health care facility. She was born May 5, 1938, in Belfast, the daughter of Duane and Louise (Murch) Whitten. Betty was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy, class of 1956. She was extremely proud of the CNA degree she received through Adult Education. Betty is survived by her husband, Terrance; two sons, Daniel Morgan and his wife, Karon, and Scott Morgan and his wife, Christy; two daughters, Cheryll Cochran and her husband, Stephen, and Karen Crocker and her fiancée, Donnie Sorey; a brother, Clyde Whitten and his wife, Faith; a sister, Joan Janke; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Morgan, Tyler Morgan, Alana Morgan, Aaron Morgan, Caitlyn Morgan, John Morgan, Sarah Saunders, Laura Melia, Carrie LaChance, Emily Jackson, and Devan Jackson; several great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by three stepchildren. Betty was predeceased by her first husband, Oliver Morgan."
