[47217] Florence's obituary: "Florence Hepler, 99, of Cranberry, passed away at her residence on Thursday, March 16th. Born October 8, 1917 in Cranberry Township, Florence was the daughter of the late Albert H. and Grace Smith Clark. She was married for 69 years to Clinton W. Hepler, and he preceded her in death on July 22, 2012. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. As a child, Florence was in the first class to attend Salina Grade School and also in the first graduating class from Cranberry High School. She attended Welshs Business College after high school. She was a member of the Van Free Methodist Church, and enjoyed playing hymns on the piano, well into her 99th year. Florence was a homemaker, whose distinguishing characteristic was her 'sense of humor'. This was best summed up by her niece who was overheard to say . . . 'Whenever Aunt Florence visits, we always have fun!' She also had a 'pithy' saying for every situation. She is survived by her two sons, Orie W. Hepler and his wife, Betty, of Cranberry, and Wayne L. Hepler and his wife, Patty, also of Cranberry; and her daughter, Jeanne L. Hubbard and her husband, Donald, of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by her 20 grandchildren, Leland Hepler and his wife, Catherine; Nathan Hepler and his wife, Heather; Clark Hepler and his wife, Lisa; Matthew Hepler and his wife, Monica; Susan Hafner and her husband, Thomas; Sandra Manuel and her husband, William; Charles Hubbard; Carrie Kolesar and her husband, Joseph; Alethea Burkett and her husband, Joseph; Anna Mourachian and her husband, Mark; Clinton Hepler and his wife, Alexandria; Daniel Hepler and his wife, Maria; Maria Morgan and her husband, Corey; John Hepler and his wife, Laura; Bethany Hepler; Mark Hepler and his wife, Katherine; Andrew Hepler; Thomas Hepler; Catherine Hepler; and Clare Hepler; and her 63 great-grandchildren. [684] "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 82 states he m. Bertha _____. Henry is son of Engenulf (William), the son of Henry, Sire de Ferrieres & Chambrais in Normandy. Henry "took part in the Conquest and held a great fief in the midlands. He established his chief seat at Tutbury Castle, Staffordshire, on the Derbyshire border, and founded there a Cluniac priory." {-Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956, 9:183} Henry, Sire de Ferrieres, held Tillieres, etc. and brought many warriors to the Conquest, for which he received 210 manors, 114 of these in Derbyshire. Henry was one of the commissioners for the general survey of 1085. Homer Beers James' site (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/james/f028.htm#I1364X1) in 2003 offers: Henry de Ferriers, son of Walcheline de Feriers, obtained from William the Conqueror, a grant of Tutbury Castle, co. Stafford, with extensive possessions in other shires, of which one hundred and fourteen manors were in Derbyshire. He must have been of considerable rank, not only from those enormous grants, but from the circumstances of his being one of the commissioners appointed by King William to make the Grand Survey, the Domesday Record, of the kingdom. He was the founder of the priory of Tutbury, which he liberally endowed. Crispin and Macary report: "Henry de Ferrieres is referred to by Wace thus, 'Henri li sire de Ferrieres,' and he who then held Tillieres. He was seigneur de Saint Hilaire de Ferriers near Bernay and the son, of Walkelin de Ferrers, who fell in a contest with Hugh de Montfort I. early in the reign of Duke William, in which both of these noblemen were killed. He had an older brother William, also reported at Hastings, undoubtedly well advanced in years at that time, who died before the compilation of Domesday, where his name does not appear. Henry de Ferrers received 210 manors, 114 of which were in Derbyshire. The seat of his chief barony was Tutbury Castle in Staffordshire, which had previously belonged to Hugh Lupus, but upon the latter becoming the Earl of Chester in 1071, it was granted to Henry de Ferrers, who founded nearby a Cluniac monastery. Henry was appointed one of the commissioners for the general survey in 1085 and richly endowed the priory of Tutbury in 1089. He married Berta _________ , whose identity is unknown, by whom he had three sons: Enguenulf, William, and Robert."
