[45573] Kate is daughter of William Curtis Moore (1851-1921) & Bessie E. Morgan (1855-1919). "News-Journal [Mansfield, Ohio], 27 Apil 1957," pp. 1 & 16: "One of Ohio's wealthiest women, Mrs. Kate Moore Myers, 76, of Ashland, and her chauffeur were killed last night in a three-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 42, three and a half miles south of here. Injured was Miss Elizabeth Pastor, 31, of Ashland, prominent concert pianist, who was a passenger in the car in which Mrs. Myers, and the chauffeur, Harold Baker, 49, of Ashland, died. Miss Pastor received cuts of the scalp and possible skull injuries. She was treated at General Hospital and later released to Ashland Samaritan Hospital where she is reported in good condition. Baker died of massive chest injuries shortly after arrival at Mansfield General Hospital. Mrs. Myers was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital from a depressed skull fracture and brain damage. State highway patrolmen said Gay Gregg, 67, of 134 South Diamond St., was stopped headed south on U. S Route 42 to make a left turn into Orchard Park Rd. Lloyd M. Walters, 68, of Rellville, RD 2, who was following Gregg in a truck loaded with fertilizer was unable to stop. Walters went left of the centerline, state patrolmen said, hitting the Gregg car on the left side and then ran into the side of the car headed north driven by Baker in which Mrs. Myers and Miss Pastor, were riding. Mrs. Myers and Miss Pastor were returning to Ashland last night from Columbus when the accident occurred. They were scheduled to go to Cleveland today for an appearance with the Ashland College Choir. Both of the women were in the back seat of the car when the accident occured. Miss Pastor and Mrs. Myers had traded seats shortly after getting into the car so that Mrs. Myers could be seated away from the sun. State patrolmen said today they are continuing their investigation of the accident. Charges will be filed with the prosecuting attorney, patrolmen indicated. Wife of the late Guy C. Myers, who was a son of Phillip A. Myers, one of the original founders of F. E. Myers and Bros., Mrs. Myers was a generous donor and supporter of Ashland College. She was elected to the board of trustees of the college about three weeks ago. Her husband was at one time vice president of the Myers company, manufacturers of pumps, water conditioning units and related items. Mrs. Myers was active in personal philanthropies during her lifetime. She gave the funds for the Kate Moore Myers Dormitory at Ashland College and also donated to the college chapel and the men's dormitory fund. She was one of the large donors to Wittenberg College. She was also founder of Ashland Garden Center, on the board of McConnell Ladies Home, Inc., vice chairman of the Ashland County Red Cross Chapter and former board member, on the board of directors of Ashland Salvation Army, past president of the Garden Clubs of Ohio and active in the work of the Lutheran Church of Ashland. She and her late husband donated the Myers Athletic Field to the City. This field is now the site of the new Ashland YMCA. Born Dec. 27, 1880 on a farm north of Ashland in Ashland County, Mrs. Myers was the daughter of W. Curt and Bessie Moore. Her father was a former grocery store owner in Ashland. A graduate of Ashland High School, she also attended the Dramatic School of Elocution in Indianapolis, Ind. Tragedy struck her family on three separate occasions: in 1932 when her daughter Miriam was electrocuted after an auto accident at Mullet Lake, Mich.; in 1934 when her husband died by his own hand; and in 1938 when her son Phillip was killed in an auto accident at Mullet Lake. A daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Mitchell, and a brother, Tom Moore, are listed as the only survivors. Moore is an attorney in Columbus. Mrs. Mitchell is the wife of author and world's top trophy winner for boat racing, Carleton Mitchell. They make their home at Sharps Point, Annapolis, Md., but were currently staying at their sumer home at Nassau in the Bahama Islands."
