[687] Ranulph was born by 1100. He was the Earl of Chester and also the Vicomte d'Avranches, etc. in Normandy. Held the Castle of Lincoln. As an opportunist, he switched sides several times in the wars for the Crown and some say was poisoned by his wife and William Peverell of Nottingham. {ref."The Complete Peerage," London: St. Catherine Press, Vol. 3, pp. 164-5.} Tradition is that he died by poison administered by his wife. He subsequently, however, sided with the king, and finally, distrusted by all, died, under excommunication, in 1155, supposed to have been poisoned by William Peverell, Lord of Nottingham, who, being suspected of the crime, is said to have turned monk, to avoid its punishment. Surviors are her husband of Little Deer Isle; six sons, Fuller, Edgar, Burlin, Lewis, and Marvin, all of Deer Isle, and Wendall of Shelburne Falls, Mass.; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Snowman of Stonington and Mrs. Lillian Sewell of Little Deer Ilse; and two half-sisters, and Mrs. Evelyn Weed and Mrs. Gladys Eaton, both of Connecticut; 13 grandchldren." Geneva and Cecil had Russell Fuller Eaton (1926-2014), Edgar Cecil Eaton (1927-2018), Burlyn Ellis Eaton (1930-2017), Wendell Everett Eaton (1932-2009) & Lewis Edwin Eaton (1939-2004).
