[36642] This person is from the unverified Farmer Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2014. Ancestry.com offers: "Cave Name Meaning - English (of Norman origin) and northern French: nickname for a bald man, from Anglo-Norman French cauf 'bald'. Compare Chaffee. English: habitational name from a place in East Yorkshire called Cave, apparently from a river name derived from Old English caf 'swift'. French: metonymic occupational name for someone employed in or in charge of the wine cellars of a great house, from Old French cave 'cave', 'cellar' (Latin cavea, a derivative of cavus 'hollow'). French, possibly also English: topographic name for someone who lived in or near a cave, from the same word as in 3 in an older sense."
[3451] Gordon Banks (http://www.gordonbanks.com/gordon/family/2nd_Site/geb-p/p105.htm - citing Marlyn Lewis, "The Ancestry of Elizabeth of York" [Arvada, CO: HT Communications, 1999]) states that Ermengaud may be son of Eudes (Odon) (d. 919; son of Raimond I {?} and Bertha de Remy {?}) and Garsinde de Albi. [Rouergue lies amid the large plateau which dominates south central France. In ancient times it was partially in Lugdunensis and partially in Narbonensis; it was overrun by various barbarians before finally passing to the Frankish Kingdom in the 6th century. It was created a county in the 9th century.]

[43827] The unverified file at http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/VERNON.htm provides this couple and their line and offers: " High Sheriff of Lancashire. Chief Justice of Chester in 1229-36. He adopted the fretty sable, (upper left square in red) for his coat-of-arms. It was the custom in those early days for the oldest son to place a canton in that position in his father's shield. William became Lord Haddon, although his seat may not have been Haddon Hall. He commanded a company of perhaps the first archers (Welsh) to be used in the Norman wars, and was later a travelling judge with County Geoffrey Plantagenet in Normandy, representing King Henry II. Sir William, Chief Justice, protected the estates and interests of his half-brother, Robert de Vernon, whose two sons, Richard and Robert, were banished for taking the wrong sides in the English-Norman wars. He also arranged the marriage of Robert's daughter to his own son, Richard."
