In 2019 the unverified file at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Paullin-59 offers: "Beryl was a medic in WWI with a rank of private and some accounts say he was in the special services that went into Germany. He enlisted on May 31, 1918 in Portland, Oregon, After the war according to the 1920 census, Beryl lived in a boarding house with his two brothers and his mother who ran the property with a partner. He was a merchant marine for a few years as well. He was a fireman for the City of Portland for 31 years, his highest rank was Assistant Captain, Engine B. He married Elsie Louise Ziegler July 14, 1922 in Portland, Oregon. They had four children, one of which died in infancy. During WWII, Beryl was a longshoreman assisting in the war effort at the Portland shipping docks. Elsie and Beryl divorced September 15, 1950 in Portland, Oregon. Beryl remarried in Washington. He died on June 10, 1970 in Vancouver Washington and was buried on June 15, 1970 at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon."
