[55212] "Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 14 November 2023: "Steuben - George Featherston Holland, 89, of Steuben, passed on to meet the Lord on the morning of Nov. 5, 2023, at his home, after some sudden health complications. George was born Aug. 21,1934, to the late Wellington and Doris (Smith) Holland in Steuben, where he resided his whole life. He was a constable of Steuben, then for many years, a bus driver and custodian for the local school, before working at Wymans, where he spent the rest of his working days, prior to his retirement. Upon retirement, George began spending more time just being with family. He was a creative and skilled carpenter and farmer in his time and would often be found working in his garden. He enjoyed the outdoors his whole life, fishing, hunting and just exploring nature. George left behind a daughter, Elizabeth Hammond-Holland, who passed away just seven days later, on Nov. 12; her three children, Abbie, Justin, and Alycia Hammond; two nephews, Steve Burgess and his son, Corey, along with Corey's mother, Megan, and Alan Burgess and his wife, Brooke, along with their two sons, Keith and Brayden. George was predeceased by his first wife, Irma (Fickett) Holland in 2004, and by his second wife, Alvina Holland in 2015. He was also predeceased by his younger sister, Elizabeth 'Betty' Burgess in 2022."

[6678] "Long Beach Independent [Long Beach California], 3 August 1948," p. 8: "Miss Ralph Dighton Jackson Boston, the guest of honor and speaker at the LuVailean Poetry club yesterday afternoon in Alamitos Branch library proved surprisingly young and attractive to be the possessor of such impressive titles as founder, director and instructor of the American Academy of Poetry and poetry editor of Beacon Hill News. In her talk, 'Verse Forms of Future,' Miss Jackson gave encouragement to budding poets when she commented that beginners can usually start publishing a small way when they begin writing, but would be apt to starve in a garret if they depended on poetry earnings for their livelihood. Under the patronage system, the speaker said, a struggling poet or creative worker had the satisfaction of knowing his food and shelter were assured. Miss Jackson said that she agreed with Milton's remark that every poet should travel and that it was particularly true if they could travel to California, where she has found great beauty and inspiration. In the receiving line at the reception were Lyra LuVaile, president and founder of the LuVailean Poetry club; Mrs. Anne Swedlund, chairman of the hospitality committee, and Mmes. Elizabeth Tracy and Hally Nay MacKay. Vocal selections were given by Winifred Burton Paul of Los Angeles, president of the California Federation of Chaparral Poets, accompanied at the piano by Miss LuVaile. Among guests introduced were Ethel McDermott Johnston and Edith Duncan, Long Beach; Eva Lynn, Los Angeles; Agnes Davenport Bond, Grace Ladd and Ethel Gerrard of Santa Ana; Lavinia Watkins, president and founder of the San Diego Poets association; Mr. and Mrs. Foster Rhodes Jackson of Chino, brother and sister-in-law of the speaker and Kingsbury T. Jackson of York, also a brother; and visitor from South Dakota, Mrs. Esther Kuntzson." She r. in 1976 at Big Spring, TX.
