He was born July 22, 1930, in Dyer Brook, Maine, to Kemp and Blanche (Friel) McLaughlin. He was the youngest of four children. Vern married Duska June Noyes on June 28, 1947, in Woodstock, New Brunswick. They had three daughters, Linda, Jeannean (George Taylor), and Catherine "Cathy" (Dale Hosford). They lived in Dyer Brook at the current home for 60 years. Vern had six grandchildren: Rodney Farrar, Dr. Carol Farrar (Brian Marzan), Jill Faulkner (Jeffery Minchin), June Shaw (David), Manny Hosford (Hanna), and Kemp Lybrook; sixteen great-grandchildren: Andrew, David, Elizabeth, Esther, Jeffery, Jennah, Jesse, Jordan, Katherine, Katie, Lauryn, Madison, Mary, Myles, Nicolas, and Vernon; seven great-great-grandchildren: Athena, Aubry, Cameron, Dietrich, Max, Stephen, and Waylon. Vernon was predeceased by: his wife, Duska (Noyes) McLaughlin; one daughter, Linda McLaughlin; two sisters, Gertrude Morrison and Phyllis Bowers; one brother, Donald 'Donnie' McLaughlin; one granddaughter, Beth Thompson; and one great-grandson, Jesse Shaw. Vernon had a long career at the Staley plant in Houlton. He did many jobs like buying potatoes, filling in for the chemist, payroll clerk, and he finished up as a foreman. Vernon was involved in many social circles, such as AA, Masons, bird food deliveries, Staley's retiree's group, coats for those in need, assisting in house repair projects with grandkids, and two hour 'haircuts' to hash out town politics. He also really enjoyed playing cards like poker, cribbage, rummy, and slots at the casino. The stock market kept him sharp and auctions kept him busy buying land and houses, and even whole backseat loads of fishing tackle."
